A man is being rushed to hospital this morning after becoming impaled on a piece of furniture inside his home at Reid.

The ACT Ambulance Service was called to the Allambie Street property just after 9 o’clock.

Intensive care paramedics arrived a short time later to find the 60 year old impaled on a an ornamental bed head through his stomach.

The paramedics worked for about half an hour with ACT Fire & Rescue firefighters and ACT Policing officers to get the man free.

He was stablised on scene and is now being transported by the ACT Ambulance Service to The Canberra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Or was it a practice run gone wrong by a Public Servant for a future compensation claim whilst having bedroom antics? Either way he was up to his guts in it

makes me wonder if this is the most bizarre reason to be taken to the ED.

Not even close.

Well I stubbed my toe once. Since I fronted up at 22:30 Saturday – possibly their busiest time – they had every right to put me at the bottom of the list and keep me waiting for hours. But the nurse saw me within an hour, said there wasn’t much that could be done about a stubbed toe and sent me on my way.

Frankly I’m appalled, most of the responses to this story have been stomach churning.

I’m betting it’s the last time this guy tries to engage in some acrobatic sex acts.

when I was in there on Friday morning, one bloke was recovering from too many drinks, apparently his busy body neighbours had called an ambulance to take him away because he was annoying them!! sounded funny in my overtired and dehydrated state!!

surely those scope for some jokes about beds in ED?

Please don’t invite submissions from Emergency staff!

I’m going out on a limb here and say that it wasn’t the penetration he expected in his bedroom.

He may have been changing a light bulb while standing on the bed and lost his balance. Heard of this happening before. Hope he’s ok.
