Being a judgy judgster. When being right sucks

I know rioters are roundly criticised for making judgements against the poor criminals (or those accused of criminal behaviour) but here is a follow up in the Canberra Times on my earlier post about the wisdom of letting a man accused of producing/using/disseminating child pornography out on bail.

My point? Some crimes should require a much tighter focus on protecting the victim through conservative application of bail and associated conditions.

I wonder was he emailing a confession to his pastor? Maybe that’s just a Catholic thing.

Unless we’re in America, its more of a protestant thing with pastors.

For us Pastafarians it’s a thing with pastas.

Why is there not a presumption against bail in child sex offences?

Come on surely you already know the answer to that one? You’ve got to literally be a serial killer before they’ll even consider bail, besides they can’t afford extensions to the AMC.

Why is there not a presumption against bail in child sex offences?

Its not that making judgements of others is the issue, as thats something that most people do when nothing else seems to interest them. They discuss other people, judge them, claim a superior standing in spite of it all. Thats more or less a bit of entertainment to read in a gossip rag at lunch. The central offence is that so many people possessing the afore mentioned tendencies are willing to condemn anyone for anything and off the word of what they have gobbled on via mass media bullshit. I have no problem with anyone consuming rumours, gossip and innuendo but for when it has to do with court proceedings. And for all the mob out cries around , none of those behind it are out there trying to change what they think they so despise about others. So this crime type is shocking, we know, he is an ill one indeed and I hope he gets a very understanding specialist. But not before having it heard properly. Either way I don’t give a shit being that I can’t think of a more repelling topic to wanna piss and moan on about.

If you’re saying, wait until the court is done, fair enough. But given the situation, it seems more than fair to question the bail.

Yeah, but I’m sure he’ll be sorry for what he did – at least in front of the judge!

What is your point? He sent some emails, and, err, that’s it.

No, that’s not “it”. The guy had clear bail condition, which he breached. But, as usual, our beaks just let it go.

When someone treats the court, and by extension the rest of us, with contempt, then he deserves no further consideration.

Breach of bail conditions suggests to me he does not appreciate the seriousness of the whole situation. Self control is critical to not reoffending, I would think. Noting, of course that he is innocent until proven blah blah.

I wonder was he emailing a confession to his pastor? Maybe that’s just a Catholic thing.
