A 22-year-old Belconnen man was arrested yesterday (Friday, 6 December) in relation to a spate of graffiti incidents that occurred in Belconnen in September.

On the 27 September, police received several reports from local Belconnen businesses and government departments’ of walls and windows sprayed with graffiti ‘tags’.

Police executed a warrant yesterday on a Belconnen residence where a number of items were seized and a man was arrested.

The man was taken to the ACT Watch House and charged with defacing private premises.

He will be summonsed to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.

Hey, does anyone know what TAMS etc use to remove graffiti?

There are commercial products available (they get a lot of use at school). Try at the hardware store of your choice in the cleaning chemicals section. Most of these products are rather noxious – would be useful to have a respirator mask with appropriate filters (for chemical fumes).

Thanks guys, great suggestions! I will try ’em and also contact neighbourhood watch.

I think your local neighbourhood watch group may have a graffiti removal kit which could serve your purpose. Good on you if you intend to use it, 🙂

Miz you’re a hero. Start with metho then try something like this (maybe checking with the council to see if it’s illegal to use any of these chemicals) http://www.crimsafe.com.au/blog/wp-content/Resources/APPROVED%20CHEMICAL%20GRAFFITI%20REMOVAL%20PRODUCTS%20-%20AUGUST%202010.pdf

For more ideas just type “how to remove graffiti” into google. 😉

Does is say something really offensive or do you seriously have nothing better to do?

yeah, screw that guy who is being proactive in making his community nice!

Dr K, it is quite large, mostly red, and in a very conspicuous spot and is visible from the main road, making that stretch look pretty naff. Just being a, you know, responsible citizen, I thought I would take it upon myself to do something the govt couldn’t be bothered to do, in my own time (probably during my holidays over Christmas). So if anyone has any ideas on what to use I would appreciate it.

Comic, probably. [Or should I say, as you repeatedly do, ad nauseam, ‘Source?’]

I recently emailed a pic of a really obvious piece of graffiti on a brick wall abutting a public bike path, to TAMS ‘Fix my Street’ asking them to remove it.

TAMS said they wouldn’t/couldn’t clean it off because it was on someone’s private property. I am willing to scrub it off myself and would appreciate any tips on what to use.

must be those disgusting drug addict kids with aids from the refuge, right miz?

Good on the plod.. Did the perp use a vehicle to travel there ?, have it seized to help defray costs..

Good work. Sadly, this waste of oxygen will be told that he’s a naughty boy and not to do it again.

Bravo, plods! Unfortunately there are plenty more tools like this one still out there.
