A dedicated ACT Policing Belconnen Beats Team will be formed to patrol the Belconnen business and shopping precincts over the summer season.

The ‘Belconnen Beats’ patrol consists of six Constables and one Sergeant and will operate out of the Belconnen Police Station.

Belconnen Station Officer-In-Charge, Sergeant Matthew Corbitt said the initiative has been in place for a number of years and has provided valuable policing and crime prevention support in the business and shopping precincts across the Belconnen district.

“The members of this team will focus their attention on patrolling the shopping centres, business areas and car parks with an objective of disrupting opportunistic crime,” Sergeant Corbitt said.

ACT Policing is reminding people of important crime prevention messages, especially about personal and vehicle security while they are doing their Christmas shopping.

“Before leaving your parked car to go shopping make sure you have removed any valuables, the doors and boot are locked and secure.

“While shopping don’t leave your purse, wallet or keys in your shopping trolley. It is easy to be distracted and have someone steal your items, make sure they are secure. If someone has stolen your keys, they also potentially have access to your car and home,” said Sergeant Corbitt.

Anyone who observes suspicious activity in car parks and around shopping precincts is urged to contact police on 131 444 to report the incident.

Pfft Nortside….

Terrific news. There’s nothing like the presence of boots on the ground to deter evildoers.

I wish we could have less of…I dunno…owls maybe, and more of this.
