Territory and Municipal Services are letting us know they’ve planted 25 Redwood saplings at the Bendora Arboretum, the first plantings there in 40 years.

“Twenty-five Redwood saplings have joined the 4000 trees planted in this historic high country arboretum located in Namadgi National Park,” Manager, Rural Districts, Parks and Conservation, Brett McNamara said today.

“These are the first plantings in 40 years and are a great example of the collaborative community work that is being undertaken in Namadgi National Park.

“We are very lucky in the ACT to have a great range of community groups that come and work within our parks and nature reserves. Many members of Friends of ACT Arboreta worked on the Bendora Arboretum during its years of service and have a wealth of knowledge to contribute to this heritage-listed site.

“Sitting at an elevation of 1265 metres, the Bendora Arboretum is the sole surviving arboreta in the Brindabella Ranges and was established to determine suitable softwood species for industry in the region.

“The Bendora Arboretum is now home to some of the best examples of mature conifer trees anywhere in the world and is the last remaining sub-alpine arboretum in the region.

Sounds like a nice place to go on a photography expedition, thanks for the heads up.

Gee whiz, 25 Redwood saplings? These must have been leftovers or rejects from the “Stanhope/Mackay Epicurean Themepark” which is soon to pass expenditure of $100 million in ratepayers money. If you are wondering why there is little “parks and gardens” activity in your suburb lately then drive past the National Arboretum and you will see why.
Re the Greens and their “anti-exotic” policies, I wonder what they think about trout in our waterways. Every second person I discuss this subject with think trout are native fish. I wonder what HenryBG’s opinion is?

Last weekend the gate was locked at Bulls Head. Although it might be open again after a week of nice weather.

Quiet a few other things up there to including one of the biggest black wild pigs ive ever seen we were up there looking for them parked at Mt Ginini car park walked around all day in the snow didnt see a thing got back to the car and the pig was in the car park lol

It doesn’t look like the easiest place to get to, but it’s pretty cool to know we’ve got something like this nearby. I had no idea this existed before now.

Ive seen it ages ago from memory drive to locked gate past mt Franklin and its on the left side of the road down abit thats if you can still get there they seem to like locking the parks up these days

Anyone know how to get to it ?
