Best Banquet for a Birthday in Canberra?

So I’m about to hit the big 3-0 and I’m wanting to take a few of my nearest and dearest out for a meal before we head out for some drinks etc.

So I’d like some ideas on where to go for a decent banquet that can cater for about 30 people, besides the obvious ones like Turkish Pide House and Chinese? Happy for costings to be anywhere from $30 to $50-ish a head?

Thanks guys!

La Scala. You can have the back room for 30 – and the food – Delicious!

Most overpriced restaurant in Civic, and the food quality is questionable.

There must be another Legends in Manuka that everyone is referring to. Last time I was there I paid $14.00 for an upturned jar of artichoke hearts.

Although you mention Turkish in a way that would seem you plan to avoid it, I really think Turkish and Indian are great for this kind of meal.

For Indian i’d recommend Indian Affair in Phillip, but the largest group I have had there is ~10.. not sure if it would cope with 30.. you could always call and ask though.

Banquet prices are on their site:

Bollywood Dimensions is good and it’s opposite Knightsbridge for cocktails before and after 🙂

+1 for Mirchi if you’re on the north side of town.

I had my 30th last year at O’Stratos Greek Restaurant in Braddon. We had about 25 people, and they did an excellent banquet for about $30 each. Then everyone just paid for their own drinks. Great food and great fun!

A friend had his 40th at legends in Manuka

The Tapas was great, food just kept coming out

Well worth it

The Ottoman. If someone took me there for my birthday, I’d be impressed.

For something a bit different, try Legends (Spanish) in Manuka.

Don’t you mean ‘least worst banquet’?

Macquarie vietnamese or the little Indian place at the Platypus centre in Ngunnawal are both great, just give the owner a call beforehand and let him know what you are looking for so he can prepare.

For a more upmarket buffet style Redsalt in the Crown is always good, bit pricey though

Most larger Indian or Thai places will provide adequate banquet arrangements. Actual venue suggestions depend entirely on your preferred part of town.
