Hi Rioters,

Im looking at enrolling our 2yo daughter in one of the gym clubs around town. There’s a stack of different programs for kids of different ages and skill levels. My opinion is that gym is one of the better activities on offer for children this age as there are so many positive benefits from the one activity, but I digress…

Just wanting to know about people’s experiences with these clubs. Who is good and why is that so, the best value and why you’ve continued/stopped.

Thanks

My 4 year old goes to Woden Valley Gymnastics and they have a great Kinder Gym program for younger ones. Excellent coaches and the kids love it, especially the foam pit. I think it is good value for money too.

If you are Southside, Southern Canberra Gymnastics in Erindale is fantastic. I have had my boys there for 6 months and we will be continuing as long as they continue to like it.

My 2 yo has just started the 3yo class this term because he is almost 3 so we progressed him. The instructor Narelle is amazing with the kids. The 2yo class you join in with them to help and by 3yo class they are suppose to go it alone but they are flexible with me especially since I have a new 3yo. They have also been very flexible with my older son too. They are very much for the kids and what is right for them to make it fun and safe. Website http://www.southerncanberra.gymnastics.org.au/

I couldn’t agree with you more about gymnastics. It really develops their co-ordination and strength. My other son is 9yo and is loving it too. Both my boys have come along way in 6 months. So even if you aren’t Southside definitely look into a serious gym with great equipment to keep them interested.

+1

My son went here for a couple of years. And Narelle is great. It can be a bit crazy in there when classes are in full swing but it seems to work. It’s set up for the gymnasts so parents and lookers on are a bit squished on the sidelines. With a two year old you will be involved in the class so you won’t experience the crush for a while!

Belconnen Community Service runs a gym play program for children aged between two and four. I’ve heard good things about it: http://www.bcsact.com.au/latest-news/affordable-gym-play-program-for-children-age-2-4/
