We are already one month into 2016 and hopefully staying strong on those New Year’s resolutions. In particular, that one where we plan to exercise more.

If so there might be a gym that you have signed up with or, if you are more inclined to exercising outdoors, a bootcamp. I want to know where you go and what makes it so great.

Let me know your favourite place to get whipped into shape in the comments below. I’ll visit the two most popular bootcamps and decide the verdict in next week’s article.

Hello,
Does anyone know who does fitness training at the Dickson (Majura Club) soccer fields? I’ve seen people training but no luck with googling.
Or any other north-side bootcamps?
Thanks!

If you’re available on a Friday…. you must come along at 9:30am and get trained by Lee Campbell! Mums can bring their kids. Its $30 casually or you can buy 5 at a time for $100. It’s a great group of mainly women. Afterwards we suck back coffees at Penny University. Newbies welcome.

Couldn’t speak more fondly of the folks at Original Bootcamp Belconnen.

This is a fairly subjective topic, of course, as it almost solely depends on what each individual wants out of the sessions. OBC work you seriously hard, but in a supportive way, and the ‘team’ aspect is paramount.

It’s tough, but truly rewarding.

I recommend Flex-Time Fitness with Alex Woods. He does boot camps and personal training. The website is http://www.flextimefitness.com.au

Define Fitness are the best! They come to you and have all the gear, so it’s super convenient — I’ve been training with them for just over a year now.

The trainers are super nice, and provide a lot of support, both during the sessions, and also answering questions by email, text or in the DF private facebook group. I also like that there’s a lot of focus on proper form and technique during the PT sessions to prevent injuries or just not getting the most out of the exercise.

All I can say about bootcamps is be very cautious of the exercises. If you feel like something you are doing isn’t natural, then ask advice from the instructor about your form, or just don’t do it. In these situations with so much pressure on you to exhaust yourself and having a leader yell/motivate you – it does push you beyond your abilities and sometimes to the point of your body not coping with it.

I was part of a bootcamp group for a couple of years when one day the main instructor had to call in sick and organised a replacement. The instructor made us walk up a hill on our knees – whilst this sounds pretty harmless, it has left me with an injury I will have for the rest of my life. It was unnatural and caused me to tear the MCL in my knee. I know get pain from longer walks, climbing down stairs, running etc. I am a pretty active person, so it always flares up quite a bit.

Kessey Kombat – great bootcamps that cater for all fitness types and goals. You always get a good workout no matter what fitness level. Regular sessions in Tuggeranong and Barton – very cheap! kesseykombat.com

Kessey Kombat runs alternative lunch times at Barton and Tuggeranong aswell as other times around Canberra. Also available for personal sessions. Always lots of fun! http://www.kesseykombat.com/

I can highly recommend Define Fitness http://www.definefitness.com.au/

They have a lot of different times and locations, but most importantly the trainers are amazing people. Knowledgeable about fitness, considerate and very good at cultivating a comfortable environment for anyone to reach their fitness goals.

I have been a part of the “Define Fitness Family” for two years this month. I went from barely doing 7 knee push ups in a minute to running a half marathon and dead lifting 50 kilos.

They give 7-day free trials too!

Kessey Kombat – running at lunch times in two convenient locations of Barton and Tuggeranong during the week. PT sessions also available.

Thank Dog Bootcamp. Dog obedience and fitness for owners. The trainers are lovely and our flaky beaglier is finally able to drop on command!

Lion Heart Fitness Club.

Meet at 38 Espresso on Kingston Foreshore on Saturday morning, exercise, then socialise back at 38 Espresso afterwards.

It makes a perfect start to the weekend.
