Being of Italian heritage I basically consider salami to be a main food group. I grew up on cured meats, cheese and pickled vegetables; we would eat salami, cheese and pickled eggplant for breakfast, lunch, dinner (and every meal in between).

Over the last few years Canberra has really got amongst the food scene, with great new and innovative restaurants opening regularly, offering a dining experience. Amongst these experiences, charcuterie and antipasto platters have become extremely popular with more and more venues adding this Italian staple to their menus.

So this week I want to know, if anyone can put together a delicious spread of cured meats, cheese, fruits and vegetables like my Nonna can. Where is Canberra’s best charcuterie or antipasto platter?

BombaySapphire – agreed. It’s not that the PP plate wasn’t nice, but it cost 40% more for a smaller plate than I had a couple of weeks earlier at Kingston foreshore (at The Merchant, maybe) that I thought was also tasty.

It took me 10 years to find it. There is a deli at the Fyshwick markets run by southern slavs. it is on the left hand side as you drive in. $20 for a great selection of cured meats. mmmmm I am salivating as I write this.

Love the cured meats and charcuterie at Italian & Sons. Really good stuff.

Not really a recommendation (more an anti-rec), but I was quite disappointed with the platters at Poacher’s Pantry, but perhaps that is because my expectations were rather high.

I hear constant raves for the platters at Jamie’s Italian, but haven’t sampled them myself. Mezzalira also do fabulous cured meats.

Jamies Kitchen hands down

Molly’s and/or The Rum Bar.

But maybe that says more about me than the food, haha.
