Buffallo Wings

I feel like chicken wings used to be a very American thing. When I first went to the States I tried my first ever American Buffalo wings and now I am addicted. I hate blue cheese, but I love blue cheese sauce with wings!

Recently though, wings have become a popular menu item, particularly in bars. And it’s not just American Buffalo wings, these restaurants and bars are mixing it up and making their own flavour combinations, which suits me just fine. The more chicken wings the better!

After all this talk of chicken wings and blue cheese sauce, I really want to know, where can I get the best chicken wings in Canberra?

I’d vote for Soulfood Ktichen. They do a few things oddly, but they sure do make good wings. Lip tingly tangy, buttery, vinegary, moreish and with a side of fries to also dip in the bluecheese dip. Yummo.

Siren bar in Gungahlin has the best Buffalo BBQ Chicken wings that are made to order mild, medium or spicy!!!

Try Soulfood Kitchen in Erindale. Best ribs and chicken made by a real Southerner…as in USA, not southern Canberra

I agree Soulfood kitchen is pretty good and their food easily trumps Smoque.

I was unimpressed with the whole Smoque thing. Service wasn’t bad but food not to my liking. Soulfood is pretty authentic…based on my experiences in the southern states

Unfortunately nobody does the Nashville style hot chicken locally but I reckon it’s the ducks nuts with a few beers on a warm summer afternoon. Might even buy a case of Tsing Tao and do some over the Australia Day weekend.

Isa St Bakery in Fyshwick.
Superb chicken wings

I haven’t followed an article so closely for a while. I mean this is important stuff.
The Isa St bakery would be ideal. Will give it a whirl. Thanks to 1967 for the tip.

The chicken wings at the Peruvian van Mr papa in braddon are excellent and are not the standard buffalo style.

Not a huge wing eater, but try Shannons BBQ at Higgins shops.

Hopscotch or Tongue & Groove are pretty good alternatives to Smoque if you’re in the city and hankering for some chicken wings.

Smoque easily.

Fairly cheap and extremely quick, I’ve never had bad wings from them.

I’ve only ever had them at Smoque, but that place makes me feel sick. I can’t explain it. Haha. One good thing about Smoque wings though is that they have three levels of ‘hotness’, so you can choose the ones that suit you.

I had stuffed chicken wings (deboned and stuffed with a delectable lemongrass, pork mince mix) from a Thai restaurant some time ago. For the life of me I can’t remember where is was though. I have eaten a great many wings in a variety of styles and these really stood out.

Correction. Buffalo wings is spelt with a capital B because they are named after the US city Buffalo, NY near Niagra Falls where the recipe was first devised. As far Buffalo wings are concerned, the ones at Costco are by far the best. Cooked on the spot and coming in a long plastic case you get two or three meals out of it for just $11.99.

two or three meals? Why wasn’t I told? I thought that $12 a head was pretty good for wings.

Another vote here for Smoque. Best in Canberra.

Smoque is not too bad. Never had top notch wings out in Canberra.

Same here. I could eat Smoque chicken wings all day, and the wings at Francisco’s Mexican Cantina in Manuka are good too, but I’m yet to have an oh-my-god-these-wings-are-really-truly-amazing moment in Canberra.
