One of the best party foods ever invented would have to be bread and dip, specifically hummus. It is made of the simplest ingredients; chickpeas, salt, lemon, garlic, tahini paste and maybe some cumin. Despite the easy recipe I always personally find that hummus always tastes different, depending where you get it.

This week I want to find Canberra’s best hummus … and yes, I know it can be home made … but ain’t nobody got time for that, especially at this time of the year.

Where is Canberra’s best hummus?

BB’s Turkish Cuisine at Southlands, Mawson on Mawson Drive has the ultimate hummus. The owner who loved what his mamma made had to make it himself when he moved to Australia. BB’s hummus goes really well with REAL falafels. Real falafels do not have flour in them. You will find many places add flour so the falafel sticks together and doesn’t fall apart in their oil. check out their menu at http://www.bbturkish.com.au

Zar Palestinian Cafe in Mawson makes excellent hummus!

Yarralumla kebabery makes hummus for legends. Hanna’s, made in Cooma, available at independent supermarkets, is also pretty flash.

Fig & Olive in Chisholm wins hands down for me!

I live in sydney at the moment in the heart of where hummus is available at every takeaway shop but nothing competes and to top it off, there turkish bread with the hummus…DROOL!!

Woohoo! Another backer of the Fig&Olive ….. I think their hummus is absolutely divine. I think I might have to make a trip back down south to check them out again!

I thought the fig n olive was a cafe type thing. Do they sell their hummus in take away containers ?

They sure do mate.

I agree that it is the best hummus in Canberra. The longer you eat it (ie the closer to room temp it gets) the tastiest it becomes, too.

The same family owns Little Istanbul in the Tuggers town centre, which has the same excellent stuff.

Is Little Istanbul back? It closed down a few years ago and I haven’t been in Tuggers much since I moved 2 years ago. I loooooooved their food!

This would have to be the most boring topic ever on RiotAct.
The stuff looks and tastes like floor tile glue.

I find it interesting that you would know what floor tile glue tastes like.
Thanks for reading anyways, hopefully future topics will be of more interest to you.

I use tile glue to repair my dentures.

The vapours! Your posts are starting to make more sense now.

There’s a guy at the Bus Depot Markets who has the BEST HUMMUS EVER. And the best beetroot dip, and the best pumpkin dip, and the best everything.

The absolutely best hummus can be found at the EPIC markets. There’s this guy who sells all kinds of dips, olives, soups, etc. He makes some amazing hummus – there are a few variations and all are good.

Could be the same guy Alexandra is talking about. I mean, this guy have some great dips too including beetroot and pumpkin. I’m not a frequent dweller at the Bus Depot Markets, so can’t really tell.

I reckon it’s the same guy. He also has Turkish sweets at Bus Depot Markets.

It tastes delicious! If it tastes the same as floor tile glue, maybe that’s what we can substitute it for in this era of budget emergency etc.

Also, just as a side note – I think the best hummus you can get in a supermarket is the Obela brand. So good.

I know the guy you’re talking about but I actually found his dips to be quite bland …. I think the Bus Depot Markets are finished until 11 Jan too …

Really?! Maybe you went on a bad day? Or maybe I’m not a seasoned dip expert yet haha

Fig&Olive at Chisholm Shops, or Turkish Halal Pide House at Yarralumla Shops …. the best stuff!
