Best parks for a barbecue?

Did a search for this and nothing came up, so I’m hoping it hasn’t been asked for awhile!

Planning a get-together for a bunch of grown ups (ie. we don’t necessarily need playground equipment nearby) and was thinking a barbecue in a park might be the best way to go. Time will be late September.

What are your best recommendations for parks with good facilities (not too terrifying toilets, can still see the bbqs under the layers of grime, tables – covered if possible)? We’ll be coming from all over Canberra (and even from out Bungendore way) so probably middle is best, but Northside is good too.

Thanks!

If its just adults the facilities at Kingston near all the new housing are quite good.

Corroboree Park Ainslie is nice on a fine day – not overly busy plenty of space with nice trees and birds.

But BBQ in the dead of winter….? You should make sure to bring some of granpa’s cough medicine.

Late September is hardly dead of winter (scoffs the ex-pat Canadian) 🙂

I would give the new BBQ/Toilets and undercover seating a try out the front of questacon. ALL NEW. just make sure that you take something to clean the bbq with a few times i have been there it was dirty from the local tradies that were around having egg and bacon rolls for morning tea. Plenty of space and grass aswell.

Stromlo Mountain Bike Track.

Pack the kids bikes and they can ride around the playground not more than 10m from the BBQ. The teens can either head up the hill or around the tarmac for a ride.

As long as there are no races on it’s open to the public. (BBQ area is often open even if there are races.)

Yerrabi Ponds at Amaroo is good. Good playground for kiddies, skate park for older ones. The BBQ takes a day to cook a sausage, but the facilities are great.

Anywhere good and clean is also ridiculously popular. Get in early.

The NW corner of Lake Ginninderra (Macdermott Pl) is pretty well serviced.

black mountain peninsula is good – and has many sites, so even if others have the same idea as you that day… and there are neat and funky kids’ playgrounds as well. and you can cycle there…

Tidbinbilla.

Pine Island Tuggeranong. Electric BBQs, covered areas, toilets, river…
hope it’s a sunny day.

lennox gardens (by the lake, behind the hyatt) is nice, and central.
It can get busyish with parties on the weekend – weddings and medieval bbqs etc, not so much kiddy parties.

Glebe Park in Civic?

I think there’s one gas BBQ facility there… There’s also a gazebo in case you need shelter, as well as lots of trees.

But BBQ in the dead of winter….? You should make sure to bring some of granpa’s cough medicine.

Casuarina Sands recently had a couple of mill pumped into it, and is a great place for a BBQ.

Kambah Adventure Playground on Springbett Street is great. Clean barbeques, acceptable toilets, lots of space, new (safe) playground equipment and lots of parking.
