Best place for XR6 service?

I am making a plea on behalf of my (far) better half.

His much loved 2004 (purchased 2nd hand in 2005) BA Falcon XR6 has always idled rough and recently seems to be misfiring.

His experience of services from the dealer and another *ahem* reputable franchise has not resulted in any remedy – to quote “I want someone who won’t just plug the engine into a machine and tell me it’s fine, I want a real mechanic”.

Over to you Rioters – any recommendations of an old fashioned type mechanic, preferable southside, would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Give Mick at call from Techworks in Tuggeranong, should be able to sort you out

Don’t do his, if it isn’t a Subaru he isn’t interested, which is fair enough too as he lives and breathes Subaru.

BA, eh?

It’s just what they do (sorry). If it’s any consolation, you’ll forget all about the misfiring and rough idle when the diff starts to destroy itself, the radio is no longer audible over the suspension clunking noises, the power steering line has leaked out all the power steering fluid which you were unable to notice due to the bonnet release catch being broken, and annual brake rotor replacements due to the warping…

lol you know BA Falcons too well! You forgot about the radiator splitting.

Integra Auto in Queanbeyan, or if that’s not possible then another vote fro Gentech in Mitchell.

Gentech at Mitchell

Ultimate Tunes in Phillip did a nice job on my Nissan

Strong recommendation for Gastune in Tuggers (even if the car isn’t on LPG).

Fortunately you dont have to take it to a mechanic this is something that can be quite easily fixed, follow these simple steps:

Get into the XR6 and drive it to a newsagent or officeworks and pick up a Green Artline50 marker pen, it has to be an artline not any other brand and it must be green. Drive back home and reverse your car into the driveway, its very important for one of the later steps. Now go into your house and search for your ‘Daintree Awakening’ CD, if you didn’t think you had one then keep looking because the act of purchasing the marker in the XR6 will make one appear. Take the CD out of the case and use the maker to underline the title of the CD. Return to the car and load the CD into slot 4 of the CD player, it has to be slot 4 and make sure there are no other discs in the player. Now start the car and reset tripmeter B (not A). Now press play on the CD and you must drive forwards (YOU MUST NOT REVERSE) for exactly 10.7km, once you reach 10.7km you have to stop and dont let the tripmeter tick over to 10.8 or the cd will be ruined and you will have to start again right back to buying the marker. OK, once you’re stopped press pause then select reverse then press play, but keep your foot on the brake and make sure not to move until the CD stops. When the CD finishes eject it from the player and place it back in the case, return home and place the CD in you letterbox.

The next day go to your letterbox and you will find 4 letters marked FORD, XR5, XR6, and XR8. Open the one marked FORD, shred the one marked XR5, burn the one marked XR8, and put the one marked XR6 in your back left pocket. The letter you opened will have will have directions to the nearest manhole to your house, and a guide through the sewers. If followed correctly you will arrive at Ford headquarters, if you make a single mistake you will be lost in the sewers and die of dysentry. Once at Ford HQ climb the ladder in front of you to reach the hall of doors. Open the seventh door to your left and hand the letter in your pocket to the guard. MAKE SURE IT WAS IN YOUR BACK LEFT POCKET!, If you reach for anything other than this pocket the guard has been instructed to kill you. He will grant you access to the grand master’s chamber where you will find a very weary Edsel Ford II, walk over to him and say the words FEEL THE DIFFERENCE, and Edsel will hand you the keys to a brand new Toyota as an apology that you were ever convinced to buy a Ford.

B&E Automotive
Jeff lives in the Tuggeranong area and can drive your car from his home to his shop. He’s a country guy and the best damn mechanic I’ve ever come across.
