The silly season is well upon us, even 666 is broadcasting some lonely soul in Newcastle rather than bothering to run a local show this morning.

So we turn to retrospectives.

On Jan 1 we’ll run a State Of The Riot for 2008 including the most read stories.

But what were your favourite items from the year that was?

Heheh, thanks Ant – I penned (er… keyboarded?) that little snippet:

Chic Henry spins in ever decreasing circles at ever increasing pace

Meanwhile, I’d second the Marist/Darra stories and the Tess Ryan interview as two of the most interesting discussions of the year.

Plus, let’s not forget the fantastic coverage of the local election – I really liked the Sims Challenges and candidate questionaires.

I can’t believe that no-one has mentioned the infamous yet delectable Offal thread ….

WHo+ is ronG WITH U PPL?????????

Why do I have to think of everything!

The vibe man, the vibe.

The 2CA T-shirt …

I also enjoyed the Scumdorg Infiltrates the Playschool Tent thread as an insight into how this place can work at times.
Pity comments got locked, though.

I just re-read that thread – creepy stuff.

Of course – that crazy star picket throwing dude!

skid, what is your top ten for this year?

Reading back on that thread, I could possibly have eased up on Rhiannon a bit.
Her mother, on the other hand…

but isn’t it an interesting footnote in the whole ezydvd saga, that the parent company is in receivership?

charly is on linkedin. she has badgered one of my mates for access to a group that she has no potential worth in. perhaps she should join RA…

Not a story as such, but the thread calling for T-shirt slogans had me in stitches (no pun intended): http://the-riotact.com/?p=9319

+1 for the t-shirts thread.

Sicko award to the ferret torturers

http://the-riotact.com/?p=8846

and the nutters award has to go to the friends of the WRX driver who tried to drive through a tree.

For sure, credit to BerraBoy and the Marist people, and to the local ABC for running with stories.

WoW! Cheers Skid and TM. I have to say if it wasn’t for RA the ABC wouldn’t have picked up our issues in the first place. So cheers to JB, Jazz and the team for being so patient with the multiple threads. It ain’t over yet folks… stay tuned for more info on this topic in early 2009.

And congratulations to RA for keeping the debate going despite attempts by various people to close it down by claiming that it was boring and that nobody was interested.

the recent kickfest on the summernats was my recent favourite, mainly because of the title (chic goes around in diminishing circles or something).

Affirmative Action Man10:43 am 18 Dec 08

The plea for KENJA by Dancing Queen gets my vote

Appears to be 2007. Here is the story anyway, it is gold: http://the-riotact.com/?p=5772

In that case, I was delighted to have a great disussion about the possiblity of secret underground facilities in Canberra on riotact.com, so much so that I created an article http://the-riotact.com/?p=6622 Lots of great contributions and theories in that thread.

The story about being overcharged $5 for a Pizza was the highlight in my opinion. Or was that 2007?

Tess Ryan.

I second the t-shirt slogans.

Surely a large section on the Marist/Dara Abuse…and of course the ferret torturers – THOMAS SORAHAN and ADRIANO LAROBINA?

Don’t forget the lack of steak knives by the food critic or the petfood in the childrens food aisle…

Not a story as such, but the thread calling for T-shirt slogans had me in stitches (no pun intended): http://the-riotact.com/?p=9319

The threats by various people (usually involved in bogan crimes) to report the site to the police or take legal action to close it down. Always cracks me up how they don’t like free and open discussion about their alleged misdemeanors.

can’t choose between overpriced pizza or best italian restaurant.

I liked the series of bird pictures Wide Boy Jake did, here’s an example:
http://the-riotact.com/?p=7658

I also liked when anyone said “I saw a duck once” it cracked me up every time.

Personally I hope Mel got out of dodge.

I’s agree Jessie!

How about the dude who was trying to woo his girl back – but failed miserably. Gee RA performed a wonderful public service with all kind of advise for the chick.

Whatever happened to those two crazy kids? Personally I hope Mel got out of dodge.

Here Jim – now smile for once!

Sorry JJ, didn’t realise you were the new JB, or his side-kick. I’ll see what I can dig up NOW!

Well, sonce nobody else has ponied up, here’s the link to Steve Pratt being the subject in a much admired piece of graffiti (or possibly public art):

http://the-riotact.com/?p=9389

Any of the bleeding heart stories about some wonderful member of society who gets capped by the Police, their neighbours, some other inbred, or their drug dealer.

I enjoyed the Todd Carney train wreck that kept the punters (and pundits) busy for a couple of months.

Was Pratt this year or last?

The Olympic relay deserves a spot as it was one of the most surreal things I’ve experienced in Canberra.

Sorry – meant to say the Pratt Graffiti cleanse is my favourite.

Ooh – I just got the big banner ad over the top of the page :Pink cupid .com at 2.15.

Pratt’s image on a graffiti wall!
Kangaroo cull got an almighty discussion happening,
Olympic Torch Relay and related human rights discussion were beauties too.

tylersmayhem1:02 pm 17 Dec 08

Surely Graeme Potts is worth a mention?

Gungahlin Al12:58 pm 17 Dec 08

Was going to say the Storm super cell story, but I found out that was early 2007. Who stole a year off me?

The Liberal Party infighting was pretty funny, mainly because I could usually figure out who the people doing the leaking were.

I love all the car crash stories! In real life I am far too polite to stop and gawk, but online, well, I can tut tut till my hearts content! Plus I have a couple of real-life smashes right out front my house this year. BONUS!
