Waxing is a fantastic hair removal solution that boasts many benefits over shaving – results last longer, hair becomes finer over time, you can avoid razor burn and other skin irritations, and more.

If you are looking for a reliable waxing salon in the Canberra region, you have landed in the right place. We’ve conducted a little local research and considered our readers’ feedback – now, the results are in.

In this article, discover the top four waxing salons in Canberra and surrounding areas. You’ll be smooth and silky in no time at all.

Let’s jump right into it.

What makes a great waxing salon?

Whether you are a waxing pro or total newbie, you want your go-to salon to feature the following:

  • Experienced staff. Waxing can be extremely painful – even more so if your therapist has no idea what they’re doing. Experience is a must.
  • Clean treatment rooms. Waxing can be a messy business. When you step foot into your treatment room, it should be clean, comfortable, and well-cared-for.
  • A comprehensive range of waxing services. The best salons offer a whole range of waxing services for both men and women.
  • Affordable pricing. The cost of waxing varies a lot between salons. It’s about finding a balance between service quality and affordability.
  • A relaxing atmosphere. Waxing hurts. But, in the right salon, you can indulge in a little me-time. Spa music, candles, and other finishing touches make all the difference.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is waxing better than shaving?
There are many pros and cons to both, and it ultimately comes down to personal preference. However, waxing is meant to be great for people with sensitive skin, as shaving can often lead to skin irritation and ingrown hairs. Waxing can also be good for managing thicker hair - since the hairs have been pulled out at the follicle, it will be harder for it to regrow, and will come through thinner and softer than before.
Is waxing painful?
Everyone has a different level of pain tolerance - some may find it quite painful, others may find it totally fine. If you're worried about the pain levels, try applying a cold compress to the area of skin before waxing, in order to numb the area slightly. And keep in mind that over time you will get used to the sensation, and it will become more bearable the more you do it.
How often do I need to get a wax?
For legs, you should probably get them waxed once every 3 to 5 weeks, depending on how fast your hair grows back and how well you want to maintain the hair.
Is a wax expensive?
If you want to do it yourself, kits can cost between $25-$100, depending on the quality of the brand. If you go to a salon - which is probably the wisest, and best way to guarantee quality results - then you can expect to pay certain individual amounts per area waxed, which can vary from salon to salon. However, remember that what you're paying for is not just the wax, but appropriate skincare, professionalism and safety.
What should I do after a waxing session?
After you have a wax, the treated area may be sensitive and irritated. Avoid hot baths and showers on the waxed skin, as this can aggravate the irritation, and try to wear soft, loose-fitting clothing. If you have any cooling gels or antiseptic creams, those can be very useful in reducing irritation and protecting the skin.

Beaute2Suit in City Walk and NBC in Garema Arcade are both good although not that cheap. If you’re in Gungahlin try Gloww upstairs from Big W. The owner (whose name escapes me) is brilliant.

Are there any more opinions on this, given the date of this thread?

Best brazillian I’ve had recently was at Essence Salon and Spa in Woden. Cost was around $60. I haven’t tried any of their other waxing services though.
It wasn’t awkward (Nothing worse than feeling awkward during this treatment!), and it was one of the more painless experiences I’ve had for that particular service.
The beautician was Brigette, whom I highly recommend.

I also would recommend Nati from Kingston ‘Created Beautiful’. She is the Brazilian and Brow queen!
Wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Personally I rather a woman who looks like she’s got an afro wig glued to the base of her belly.

Seriously, though, it’s an individual thing. There are no invalid choices. As long as it’s kept clean, I’m keen.

Beaute 2 Suit is a great beauty salon and they use high quality wax.

Just been to Beaute 2 Suit (in the city) for an eyebrow wax. Best job ever!! Cost $20 and the person there was very professional. I can’t believe that she was able to remove some hairs with tweezers without me feeling it 🙂
I’m recommending this place to everyone now, very friendly, professional & CLEAN.

Wikipedia has been a must reading last night. One of the theories of why we have a bush is to allow for cushioning during sex. Now I am thinking of Zohan the movie.

Don’t see much womanly attraction for the Sphynx look.

That said the mossus insist that the slight mono brow I have gets shaved and the eyebrows thinned.

Now that the last words are out of the way, and back on topic – I can highly recommend Michele at Elite Purity in Ngunnawal. She’s brilliant.

Mea culpa for raising it in the first place. I asked the question out of pure ignorance and mild (not morbid) interest.

But surely if anyone should have strips torn off them (pun intended) for wandering off topic (and I did wonder at the time, but I’ve seen much wider latitude allowed elsewhere), surely it should have been me @#17, not PB another 100 posts later. One or two others have had some things to say in those intervening comments too.

I’ve personally found some of the replies informative and interesting, and I’m cheered by the fact that some people here have made it clear they do it for their own comfort and other purely personal reasons. I don’t believe they should be lumped into the ‘dedicated followers of fashion/peer group pressure’ category. They’ve stated their views pretty clearly.

That’s my last word on the subject, but I will find some Brazilian tunes and songs to play on air on Friday afternoon!

I think some of the older men here are making the terrible mistake of thinking their opinions about the private grooming decisions of younger women are any of their business.

Some women want to do it, others don’t. Those who do are discussing where best to get it done.

The rest of us would be well advised to sit it out as it’s really nothing to do with us.

Good point, well made.

On a recent camping trip with 3 other families this discussion came up among the women of the group over late night drinks. All the husbands looked at each other rather uncomfortably, grabbed our fishing gear and left them to it.

I love my wife regardless of how she looks but I’m hardly keen to discuss her personal choices on topics like with other blokes. I also spent part of my Arts degree studying feminist issues – I know when my views are irrelevant;)
