Sportal reports that Canberra’s greatest ever cricket export, Michael Bevan, has had enough pounding away down in Tasmania and is hanging up his boots.

“It got to the stage where injuries and pain were holding back my motivation, and it got to the stage where I was finding it hard to get up for matches and that was probably a pretty clear indication that it was time to move on.

Favourite Bevan moments?

Best innings from Bevo was the rest of the world one where he knocked up 180 odd in the 50 overs. Played totally against type – just smashed them everywhere.

Had a bloke we called Bev nuts at college (not year 11 &12) because he looked so much like Michael Bevan. The lasses would have been all over him if he wasn’t already attached.

1996 ODI vs the Windies, 4 off last ball. I was at that game, so many of the crowd left that we could drift down into the better seats of the Brewantle. Ended up next to Ernie Dingo, who is a pretty funny bloke. Top work Bevan! My missus is a big fan of his arse too.

Phillip College too, wasn’t it?

The 9 commentators used to hate Bevo, as he would just knock it around and see Australia home with an over to go every time. Rarely did he hit highlight reel shots – but his ability to control and pace an innings, and milk an attack was uncanny.

Can anyone confirm he went to Weston Creek High?

More likely his coaching career, Typsy.

OT – speaking of singing careers apparently brett lee has released his first single in india with debut albulm to come…

it is one of the great shames of cricket that he couldn’t cut it in tests

What a shame, poor old Bevo. Favourite moment is definitely Michael Bevan hitting that boundary of the last ball to win against the West Indies in a one-dayer in 1996 (interestingly the same year JJJ’s 100 No.3 came out which I just purchased at lunch for $1). Lets just hope Bevo hasn’t retired to concentrate on his singing career.
