auction

The Land Development Agency are advertising a large commercial auction in Barton tomorrow.

Surrounded by prestigious office buildings with views to and from Parliament House, this large site of 6,554m2 is ideally suited for a mixed-use development incorporating a car parking structure.

? Multi-use development site comprising a minimum 900 car spaces plus bicycle and motorcycle spaces.

? Great opportunity to create a fully integrated urban hub in the heart of the National Capital providing services and activities to enliven those who live and work in the immediate surrounding suburbs.

? Opportunity to provide retail and other services to the rapidly expanding requirements of the surrounding working and residential population.

? Ideally positioned for future changes to car parking arrangements in the Parliamentary precincts of Barton and Parkes.

? Provide car parking and a range of amenities for the Government Departments and Agencies housed in Barton.

? Permitted uses in addition to a car park of not less than 900 spaces include bar, cafe, childcare centre, commercial accommodation, consulting rooms, health centre, hotel, indoor recreation facility, national capital use, office, open space, outdoor recreation facility, park, personal services establishment, residential, restaurant and retail.

? Opportunity to create an integrated lifestyle hub.

All the action is going to take place down at the Regatta Point business centre at 11.

I am looking forward to being able to drive to work knowing that there will always be a reasonably secure car parking space available near where I work when I need it. I’ll pay for that!

You’d be amongst the minority who view free car parking as a service and not a RIGHT.

As opposed to the almost complete mess it currently is…

Pay parking structures are one way to help resolve the mess. If you drive, you should expect to have to pay to park. Right now it’s free and crap. I am looking forward to being able to drive to work knowing that there will always be a reasonably secure car parking space available near where I work when I need it. I’ll pay for that!

Another car park bites the dust. The 2.5 carparks you can see between Sydney and Canberra Ave have already been sold off, and the one (nearest Sydney Ave) that is general access (the rest is leased to DBCDE) is being fenced off as of tonight! Parking around there is going to be a complete mess tomorrow morning.
