The ABC has the happy news that local vineyards are looking at a bumper harvest, while the national crop declines.

Rob Howell from Jeir Creek Wines says business at local wineries remains strong despite the economic downturn.

“We’ve had no damage due to the heat of the fruit; we didn’t get those sort of high temperatures at the critical times. The yields are wonderful and so quantity and quality is up.”

Wahoo!

Slightly off-topic, but still on-topic..

My father is a lover of eatting grapes just as fruit, but finds it difficult to find good quality grapes. Do wineries or any other grape-growing areas sell good quality eatting grapes to the public near to Canberra?

We helped picking at friends near Bywong on Saturday…the harvest was so much bigger than previous years that we got lunch at 6pm!

Another plus for the benefits of global warming

Picked grapes (chardy) on the weekend at a friends vineyard and I concur.
Very good looking fruit and heaps of it…Can’t wait to taste the results!
