ACT Policing took eleven people into custody after a series of disturbances in Civic overnight (Saturday, May 21).

Around 4.30am, police responded to a disturbance outside a nightclub where a group of up to 15 men were fighting. Police intervened and took four men into custody for breach of the peace, failing to move on and intoxicated and disorderly conduct.

A second disturbance occurred around 5.15am, and police took two females into custody for similar offences. During these arrests, police found themselves surrounded by a group of up to 150 persons, all of which were aggressive towards police.

Several officers from across ACT Policing were deployed to assist, and a further five people were taken into custody.

An 18-year-old man was charged with Intimidate Commonwealth Official during the first disturbance, and will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (Saturday, May 21).

F***in porch monkeys causin trouble again.

I had a porch monkey once, his name was Mr Fibbles. He would wait on the front veranda for me to come from school. Every kids i knew had one in the eighties.

One of the big selling points for porch monkeys was that they were trained to wait for you, but thats all they did. They never came when you called them, they made messes and were prone to flinging poo at you if you annoyed them.

Stanhope government banned them in 2001 as one of their first laws and they are getting pretty rare. So if there is a wild population causing trouble in civic then i think TAMS should be informed.

Bloody feral porch monkeys…

I understand some/many of the people involved in this altercation may have been of Sudanese descent, so BKW’s statements was probably directed at this element of the community. It’s a stupid statement but I think people can smell a troll a mile away, hence it probably hasn’t gained any traction.

Am I the only one to notice Beserk Keyboard Warrs racial slur?

Nope, but I can only assume the moron doesn’t actually know what it means, since we don’t have (m)any of the ethnicity commonly described as “porch monkeys” in the US here in Canberra.

Just another night in party town. Would it help if we just shutdown the Moose completely or would that just move the bogans and trogs to another venue? Maybe there should be a quick trivia quiz before you get in, like general knowledge, basic arithmetic. Just to leave the idiots on the street…

You have to admire the AFP boys and girls – you really do. The violence in this little town is escalating and becoming more serious each week it seems.

The police need the support not only of the community – but of the Judiciary as well. Tougher sentencing, especially for those ‘cowards’ who always seem to attack in numbers, would greatly assist us a community and also the police in doing their job.

They certainly have my appreciation for what they have to put up with.

Well said.

Hear, hear.

I definitly agree, the police are a special breed. I would not be able to handle half the things that they have to see and deal with on a daily basis.

I’m just dissapointed that it happened outside of the nightclub and not inside. It could have been one of those cowboy movie saloon brawls where they use people to wipe the bottles and glasses of the bar, break chairs over eachothers’ heads and throw drunks through windows.

But seriously, hat off to the AFP.

Same night this happened, someone I know who’s a DJ at Moose commented that there was still a line at 4:15am, which was out of the ordinary apparently.
Thinking… uncharacteristically busy, maybe some people got tossed or turned away.

I wonder when the CCTV will be released?

Oh JB, stop being so cynical! 🙂

It’s the beginning of the Rapture, don’t you know!

Simon’s liquor laws working nicely then!
