Biggest AFL match of the year - Not being shown in the ACT

Just noticed in Prime’s TV guide for next Sunday the biggest AFL match of the year between the Cats and Saints blockbuster is NOT being shown live in the ACT.

Instead Canberra fans will be treated to the crucial Swans vs Kangaroos clash from 1pm (actually a Foxtel match, but one which Prime will be picking up the feed for).

If you’d like to watch the Cats vs Saints game, you can watch it. But on replay at the great time of Midnight Sunday.

If the AFL are serious about developing the game in the Northern states, you’d think on this occassion when you have a clash of two undefeated teams, they’d make an exception and show the game on free to air.

Interestingly the game in Melbourne has been moved to 3pm so it can be shown ‘live’ on Channel Seven as a lead in to their 6pm news.

At the very least with the Swans vs North Melbourne game commencing at 1pm and finishing at 4pm, you’d think Prime locally would cross to the came at 4pm. But no, Canberra viewers will be greeted through to 6pm with 2 hours of comedy shows.

Come on AFL and Prime, for once do the right think for your local AFL audience.

“Biggest AFL match of the year – Not being shown in the ACT”

Yes it is, as discussed above. Foxtel or go to a pub and watch it.

And I’m pretty sure the GF is the biggest AFL match of the year, and that gets shown live, free to air, every year

Great username bellsbeachbabe. GO CATS!

I have foxtel but might go out with a mate who is a saints fan and go watch it at some pub.

that’s the first sensible thing in this thread – go cats!! : ) [am very jealous, bells…]

It will now be shown live at 3.10 pm on the Main Event channel on Foxtel.

I emailed the AFL about 6 weeks ago asking why it wasn’t being shown. Apparently Prime has to show the Swans game live into the “local” market. Normally Main Event do not broadcast on Sunday but I think they are now as the game was moved back an hour.

I’m going down for the game. GO CATS!!!

OK, but that also includes live games from the SCG? I don’t think Perth or Adelaide get live home games. Also, people in Perth and Adelaide are interested in their teams

Anna, I agree, but it’s written in to the contract that they have to show the “local” game. Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane get similar treatment with their teams.

It’s incredibly annoying…hopefully the next contract won’t have such an awful clause.

Prime and Seven can’t do much about the situation as their hands are tied by the broadcast contract.

But surely they don’t need to subject us to the Swans all the time. No one in Sydney is interested in them now they are losing, why should we be.

Prime and Seven can’t do much about the situation as their hands are tied by the broadcast contract. And generally speaking, the only reason the match can be displayed live in Melbourne is if it’s a sell-out.

As for ONE HD, it’s a branch of Ten, and therefore tied to the same rules as Ten. The best you can hope for there is that ONE will occasionally not show a Sydney match, and show the main Ten match instead (although being subjected to Channel Ten’s commentary team is no what I would call “luck”).

For me, as usual, it will be 3AW Football via afl.com.au.

I just hope that the next television deal isn’t spread over three broadcasters.

It has two AFL timeslots for Saturday arvo/evening. But since I have virtually zero interest in AFL (I’m amazed I even opened this thread) I didn’t bother to look at the details of each slot.

And notice that the Saturday afternoon game is exactly the same one as is already showing on Southern Cross Ten.

As I’ve said before, don’t get too excited about ONEHD.

So nothing has changed since last year then:

We are still recieving same feed from Sydney and watching what Sydney watches.

At least this year we dont have any dipshit, moronic and uninformed politicians flapping their mouths about how an AFL team would be feasible without even being able to resolve an issue as rediculous and simple as getting the broadcasting corrected….

Seriously,,, this is an absolute joke & a discrace that they cant get this right….

AND GO THE SAINTS!!

518 is fantastic. Most weeks this year I have been able to see every game live on either Fox 1, 518, 7 or 10.

That is fairly rubbish. Looks like the Ainslie footy club will be taking some of my hard earned on Sunday.

yeah i am sure it will be on Main Event on Fox, pretty much all of the games that are shown live into other states but not in NSW/ACT are shown there.

this is ^%#*&# typical of AFL broadcasting in NSW/ACT for this year. the swans (yawn) game *always* shown live with another random game shown live if we’re lucky – the other games are delayed or not shown at all on FTA. i ended up buying the foxtel additional pack last week so i can watch nearly all live at home on fox. how on earth the AFL expects there to be sufficient support in the region for a 2nd sydney team is beyond me.

Any indication of what AFL coverage will be when ‘One-HD’ starts this week?

I have just checked the AFL website and the match will be shown live into the ACT on Foxtel. Main Event – Channel 518 at 3pm on Sunday.

You won’t be able to listen to it either unless you stream it via afl.com, as ABC666 will cover the League as they do each Sunday.

The match will be replayed on Fox Sports 1 at 7:30pm.

Its unfortunate it won’t be shown live on 518.
