Bimberi Recruitment

Bimberi is the new “Youth Detention Centre” in Mitchell, and as it nears completion, they are recruiting staff now.

This from the DHCS website:

Bimberi will replace the current Youth Detention Centre at Symonston. It will be the first Human Rights Compliant youth detention centre in Australia. As well as being designed to meet Human Rights standards, Bimberi will have the latest in security technology for all security levels from low to maximum. Bimberi will have state-of-the-art recreation, education, training and health facilities.

(Not to mention, the guests being the first people in Gungahlin to get a swimming pool…)

But curiously, of all the workshops they are having/have had to recruit these staff, none of them are located near where the actual employment will be located:

  • Goulburn Soldiers Club 6pm Thursday 24th April 08
  • Vikings Tuggeranong 6pm Wednesday 30th April 08
  • Cooma Ex-Servicemen’s Club 6pm Monday 5th May 08
  • Yass Soldiers Club 6pm Thursday 8th May 08
  • Queanbeyan Roos Club 6pm Monday 12th May 08
  • Woden Southern Cross Club 6pm Thursday 15th May 08

Ah that oh so rare commodity common sense…

– when will the law abiding, tax paying citizens get these ?

Firstly, Gungahlin Al, the obvious answer is that they have already tried recruiting in the Canberra area and haven’t found anyone suitable. Perhaps too many “Snahons” in the community.

Snahon, has anyone stopped you accessing available recreation/education/training and health facilites lately ? ……….Thought not.

Thanks Al; keep up the good work.

Minime, you got me a bit confused there sorry.

I do recall your message about the intersection, and even went to check it out last weekend, as I seldom drive that way. Perhaps I’ve missed some other comment you’ve posted somewhere, but I don’t live inside RA so that’s entirely possible if not probable. Lot of balls in the air here mate…
For direct answers, president {@} gcc.asn.au is more reliable.

On the roadworks on Gundaroo Drive, that’s one of the entrances to the new suburb of Crace, the other being Nurdurr Ave, already built. Go to the ACTPLA page for variations under the old Territory Plan and go to the Crace one – page 22 will shed some light. It was gazetted a couple of years ago. Or in the new Territory Plan, an updated concept plan. Been a number of articles on our website about it too – including our efforts over the last year + to get assurance from Andrew Barr that Nurdurr Road will be extended right through to Gungahlin Drv so Palmerston people don’t cop a heap of rat-running. Andrew confirmed at my last meeting with him that this would definitely happen – it is now in the 4-year plan, but may come earlier depending on post GDE traffic studies.

For the connection to Gungahlin Drive, you can see the new Territory Plan map – you’ll see Franklin is to get one more intersection with Gungahlin Drive, not far north of the Wells station Drive intersection. Not sure the street name, but it will run virtually all the way to Hibberson Street (east end) so will pop out right next to the new business park precinct when that is built.

And for other new stuff that will pop up soon, perhaps you haven’t seen the tender notice for the first stage of Bonner in the papers the last couple of weeks? That will be immediately north-west of Forde. Caset won’t be far away either – north of Nicholls.

Now on topic, I was thinking along the lines of local jobs for local people = less traffic and therefore road construction costs. But you seem to be saying that’s not such a good idea when it comes to corrections “clients”? Interesting point indeed.

Gunghalin Al: I recently praised “Gunsmoke” for up-to-date info on our area, and have enjoyed some of your input on Riot, but I am losing confidence in your Gunghalin ‘position’ in regard to your lack of knowledge of the new intersection on Gunghalin Drive at Franklin, and the roadworks/come new intersection on Gunderoo near Barton.

So who cares if the Youth Detention are actually seeking staff from well outide the “we know who you are” perimieter for employment in Mitchell. Its a major play for the “kiddy guests” to find out about you and where you live. They do get out eventually. or as in the case of Quamby – quite often.

close to home too.. I could ride/run to work…

Hmm maybe I need a career change into corrections officer – prove I am not just a bowl of jelly with an ISP

Youth Detention Centre in Mitchell hey? First I’ve heard of this. I suspect motor vehicle and home contents insurance premiums will go up in neighbouring suburbs. Hehe.

One thing I’ve noticed in dealing with people doing recruitment is a distinct lack of common sense, expertise or knowledge of…. recruitment.
