A small crop of unusual names in today’s births column, although there seems to have been a bumper amount of births this past week.

First up, Kaitlyn Jade Tarrant: Jade seems to be quite popular as a middle name at the moment. It is most definitely the “y” which marks this particular name out.

Next a bouncing boy Kasey Magill Van Dieman: yes, that’s right, a son. Possibly with country music fans for parents.

And lastly is Aaliah Scarlett Battisson: all I could think of was the AWB scandal. It’s quite spectacular anyhow.

Some friends in Sydney have a daughter with another variant of aaliah – alaiya….

I’ve a male friend named Casey, but as you can see it’s spelt with a ‘c’. I think it works quite well as a male name and am quite used to it now.

What about Kaycee Flipper Warneylegend Van Dieman…much classier.

This article discusses what I will refer to as the bogan celebrity naming phenomenon.

I wonder if Kasey’s parents are fans of spin bowling with poor spelling?
