There was rather slim pickings in the boganic name stakes amoung Canberra’s newest residents this week.

In fact, I could only find one young lad: Kaide Lloyd White.

I am glad the citizens of the ACT are mostly giving their children sensible names.

Hahaha this is so funny….I constantly marvel at the boganity of baby names I see around the place. Anything named after a US state dooms the baby to a life of ugg boots and V8 Holdens…Montana, Dakota, Indiana…

“I would have called myself Indiana…”

Indiana was the dog’s name!

Congrats to little git and random git and mrs git.

My friend is due to have her 1st child in 2 1/2 weeks. I’ve told her about not using bogan names. She laughed her arse off.

YAY for the LittleGit!

Sorry, it is terribly bogan. The Kiwis have a lock on boganity on occasion as well. Sonny Bill, Danyon, Zinzan and Jonah are some of their classics that spring to mind.

Pogue is Gaelic for ‘kiss’ from memory. Don’t see many Pogue O’Reilly’s around

Yes Cushla is a real name and not bogan at all and although rare I currently work with a kiwi lass named Cushla.

For its etymology look here

It would prolly be bogan-tastic if you spelt it ‘Bellah Royyse’, otherwise, I reckon it’s kinda nice.

fair enough Danman 🙂 and thats exactly why I named my cutie little doggie Bella as it means beautiful in Italian

I have a dog named Bella.

Just stating it, nothing more

yeah the history of one’s family name that can be dug up can be very interesting.

Bling bling – Cheers – but Bella it stays – If people wanna say we named her after x or y’s dog – fair enough – It means Beautiful in Italian and thats enough meaning for me and my other 1/2 – Rose being my mothers name – it works out quite well.

i vote for keeping the surnames.

when the kid googles itself in 20 years, they might be pleasantly surprised.

in any case, if the name is published in the canberra times why not post it here ?

I vote for droping the surnames too.

I believe that at the age of 3 or 4 a child should name themselves. You would get some very interesting and original names, and they would be slightly different without being bogany at all.

I am sure that if something like this had of been in place 25/30 years ago we would have more kermits, optimus’, she-ra’s, han’s… and that would be cool.

Danman my dog’s name is Bella… its actally quite a popular name for female dogs. I suggest that perhaps you give your 1st born daughter a full name like “Isabella Rose” and then her nickname can be “Bella”

A name that may not have been in the Canberra Times, RILEY DEAN.

Reily Dean was brought into this world by RandomGit and his lovely wife.

Bub and mum doing well father is still a Dick 😛 and for those who care bub weighed 3.385 kilos.

Maybe apocryphal – but I heard that Germany has a list of “approved” names. Anyone wishing to use a name other than those has to make a submission to the Registrar of BDM.

That would put paid to the legions of Kaylahs, Braidyns and Nevaehs.

Maybe a platform for the Riotact party? It seems to be something everyone agrees on…

I think all parents should have to submit a list of 5 baby names to a special ‘non-bogan’ committee for approval; much like when naming a racehorse.

Maybe RiotACT could also post names from the Court News to see if Bella Rose, Tyson, Montana, etc appear in that section more often than other names?

Maybe Bonfires friend has a daughter called Muttley

Not like he’s calling his kid Fido or Spot.

i got a dog called Sam – whats your point ?

i know a person who named their dog Bella.

After all, if you can’t laugh at yourself then you can’t laugh at anyone.

100% agree.

I am going to call my 1st born Daughter Bella Rose – is that bogan ?

Hay maybe we can have a RiotACT consultancy service for people thinkin of names for their children.

Yes but we aren’t ridiculing the child – we are however having a go at the parents who don’t have a thought in their head for the future.

Their children will be picked on for their names. I see it every day and the kids are getting most creative.

It may be on public record – but the CT isnt screaming Boganistic at these names. Theirs is an information service – yours is an attempt at ridicule. Your call.

Hey Kerces, happy to keep up the reporting of weird names but drop their surnames please. The rest of us in Riotact have nicknames and anonymity, maybe give the lil ones a bit of similar protection. This may also reduce the odds of bogan revenge attacks. The life you save may be your own!

Yes, today was, by sheer volume of boganity, quite poor

Kerces, you missed Cushla Frances.

Is Cushla a real name or a made up one?
