Bit strange, but after a barrel....

Hey guys,

I’m after an open topped barrel to quickly purchase (cheaply) that I can burn some wood in. Pretty simple really and yet I’ve had problems finding one. Revolve don’t have them and none of my friends seem to either. Anyone have any idea where I can pick one up quickly?

Cheers.

Shame you can’t just drive around the tip they way we used to, lumnock. Me brother in law and I once wanted a 44 gallon drum for a cracker night so just drove to the tip in a ute and grabbed on the several hundred drums they used to use to define the ad-hoc road system they used to have. Easy and free.

Burning stuff is illegal lumnock

Only if you’re buring stuff in an incinerator. If it’s a braisier or a barbecue you’re ok (well as long as it’s not an old tyre that’s buring.

I have a fire barrel such as the one sought at home and we regularly use it to burn off garden waste – but only in preparation for cooking up some snags to have with the beer which is enjoyed after a hard days gardening 🙂

You might manage to pick a free one up from any of the motor dealers – you’d just need to cut the top out.

Make sure it’s got the end off it! Otherwise you’ll need a bloody big tin opener.

Just so long as you’re not from Adelaide.

Better to be after a barrel than over one.

absolutely…but has to be a real old machine…..anything made in last 15 or so years are way too flimsy

They have perfect 44 gallon drums at Hall Rural Supplies (the stock feed place on the corner) – about $30 on memory. Ring first and make sure they’ve got them.

In Tuesday CT classifieds ‘Oil drums 44gal X 5 with sealable caps,$50 0262979793’ Good Luck.

look in the white pages…..find “the tank man”…..he will deliver one for about $40…..tell him why ya want it or he’ll bring you a plastic one….oh and 44’s are 200 litres not 100

I can imagine a wooden barrel would not be suitable for burning other bits of wood unless you only wanted a single use fire and a few steel bands left over.

100l / 44Gal drums are fairly easy to come by if you know the right people. Just ask any farmer, bound to have a few old diesel drums floating about or try the waste management place on Mugga way.

Failing that, buy a steel garbage bin.

Try ‘the chaff man’ at Stromlo (google him). He has all manner of metal 200l (44gal) drums for sale.

Do you mean a 44 gallon drum, or a wooden barrel?
