Yesterday I spotted one over our house in belconnen and today at civic/dickson one flew over head quite low about every 20mins. Anyone one know why?

Ps: if you don’t know, a black hawk is a transport helicopter used by the army.

[ED – Ainslicans were wondering about this yesterday too]

Tigers are the current attack choppers.

The choppers I saw a couple of days ago weren’t Blackhawks, they were attack choppers, not sure what the army ended up with, are they Tigers or papches? Out of the loop for a while sorry, i’m sure Cap’n RAAF can fill in the details.

They’re looking for all the people who wear tin foils hats…….

generally displays, flyovers and training exercises are posted at one of the following
http://www.defence.gov.au/media/index.cfm
http://feeds2.feedburner.com/RoyalAustralianAirForce
http://www.airforce.gov.au/AirShows/
http://www.airforce.gov.au/Displays/

Also on the various RAAF facebook pages.
Annoyingly sometimes they don’t post them until the last minute, or sometimes after the event 🙁

the fact that one of the soldiers on board had to duck away and visit his ‘bit on the side’ in Yass is neither here nor there, those blown globes can be a disaster waiting to happen……………..

Defence receives a large number of claims for deceased livestock every year due to low flying aircraft (mainly planes). Chickens, apparently, will suffer heart attacks en masse.

I’m told that a favourite (or perhaps in times past favourite) pastime of fly boys up at Butterworth (Malaysia) was to hit the speed of sound – meaning the aircraft is silent if you are in front of it – scream down low over fisherfolk in their small boats without them realising you were coming then hit them with the sonic boom. Fun for all

Back in the 70s when I were lad and lived in the brand new Scullin, the neighbour buzzed his family home next door with his chopper (Iriquois?). Major excitement for a 5yo but I’m sure my folks were wondering if the glass was going to jump out of the window frames.

That sort of thing doesn’t still happen does it?

I remember when I was a kid in my home town on Airforce Day. An Airforce Mirage III would fly up the main street at low altitude and at great speed to the detremint of the shop keepers windows rattling and vibrating almost to the point of shatering. We recovered fom our tempory deathness a few days later..

Odd that the November 12 exercises over Parliament were flagged, but not these ones.

We noticed a couple of Blackhawks (at least I think that’s what they were) flying low overhead on Wednesday afternoon at work here in Fyshwick.

Wouldn’t you call them Ainsliens?

To go along with the black hawks I also saw a couple of the Roulettes aerobatic planes flying in formation. So assuming this was some kind of military display fun.
