The Bureau of Meteorology is warning of a blizzard to hit “parts of the Australian Capital Territory” tonight and tommorrow.

On the other hand last week they forecast this would happen last night and we haven’t seen a blizzard yet.

Looks like their getting pumped.

I’d love to see a good blizzard in Canberra. I’d walk to the nearest roundabout and spend the day laughing myself sick.

Looks like light snow is falling out near Uriarra and beyond. Can’t see any of the hills west of Belconnen anymore…

It didn’t say blizzards in Canberra, it said blizzards in the ACT. There is a difference, and a key one at that when you consider that most of the ACT outside of Canberra is in the mountains where snow is common.

I never can understand why people think the weather forecast is a forecast for their own personal space.

The Brindies are looking very, very white, southwest of Belconnen… out my window…

Despite Canberra’s reputation for the cold, we very rarely get snow, let alone BLIZZARDS. Instead, all we ever get at this time of the year is wind and cold rain whenever there is a cold snap.

I grew up in Canberra, and remember walking to Curtin South primary school when there was snow on the ground (this would have been in the late 1960’s.

Sure you did, and it was uphill both way too, wasn’t it

I think there is a blizzard right now as we speak… except it’s few hundred feet above us such that it turns to spray of rain by the time it hits the ground.

On top of Mt. Gingera might be interesting.

No snow, just a little hail in Gungahlin last night around 6.

Damn cold out there at the moment………………there will be some brass monkeys in a lot of pain today!

The recently completed Gunning Windfarm (about halfway between Gunning and Goulburn, slightly to the North) is so large that when the blades are spinning, the doppler effect creates a significant “paint’ on the Captains Flat weather radar about 150km away which covers the Canberra meteorogical area on the BOM radar which accessible on the net.

Ahh, I’ve been wondering that that blob is on the radar. I thought it was just a glitch or something.

Holy crap. I agree with Mr Gillespie.

It looks like BOM has downgraded the forecast a bit for here and in the snowies 🙁

(downgraded from the point of view of skiers and boarders)

Weatherzone at 3.30 didna see doom and gloom. ” ACT for Monday Cloudy. Light rain tending to isolated showers later. Winds NW averaging 25 to 40 km/h. Rainfall: 1 to 8 mm Around Canberra.”. They did mention hairy conditions up in the snowies, but who cares.

According to the forecast synoptic chart we’re in the dead centre of this cold front and gale force wind (the area where parallel lines are bunched up).

Will probably have to wait until the 5pm update to see if mother nature will deliver.

It is the next front – and more specifically the associated ridge – to which the warning refers.
I just hope it holds off until after touch tonight…

With all the technology that the BOM has, one would think they could get it right more often.
Maybe they are too focused on delivering specified climate change outcomes, a consequenece of which are wind farms (factories?)
Apparently, BOM has the software to rectify this but hasn’t done so yet, so if one studies the radar regularly there is a false impression that it is raining almost 24/7 near Gunning.
Imagine what it will be like when these wind factory monstrosities are everywhere.
Check it out.
