Body piercing in Canberra?

I’m looking to get my belly pierced sometime within the next few weeks. I have heard about a few places, and I would be pretty keen on somewhere in Civic – it’s hard for me to get elsewhere.

The two places that seem to have come up a lot are ‘Justins’ in Garema Place and ‘Freestyle’ on Northbourne Avenue in the Sydney building.

Anybody have any news on either of these places?

Thanks!

Hey mcmc,
i am looking to get labret done. Have you got yourself pierced ?
If yes, then please tell about the experience .

I know you said Civic, hell this recommendation isn’t even Canberra but I was down Huskisson recently and they have a new tattoo and piercing joint in the main st. I got a tatt done and I can highly recommend their services when next you’re down the coast.

Tattoo Culture used to be very very good, but their piercer recently moved and I’ve heard that their new piercer is somewhat inexperienced. I’d definitely say Freestyle as that’s where my old piercer told me to go, and they have a very good reputation.

I took my friend’s elderly mother there about 3 weeks ago to get her ears redone (dodgy hairdresser job meant scarring and what not, and resulting scar tissue) and the piercer was Tia (recommended by a friend with multiple body piercings). Tia was experienced, professional and BIG on aftercare … she was careful, knowledgeable and took her time. Can’t say how the pricing compares, but it was $70 a lobe ICYI. Perhaps the previous person moved on?

However, may be too far for the OP to go.

The last piercing I had from Justin was about a year ago now – He was closing that week, as he had been diagnosed with motor neurone disease…

I’ve had numerous tattoos & piercings done at Freestyle – Would highly recommend them for both.

Catch the 300 from civic to UC, and get it done there.

+1, accompanied my 16 year old daughter to get hers done here a few weeks ago, it’s in a hairdresser so none of the seedy tattoo stuff going on, he made me inspect all the Autoclaved equipment and did an excellent job and spent a long time explaining the after care

Funny, I like my piercings done where there’s none of that seedy hairdressing stuff going on.

haha,I think it’s a separate business, it has it’s own room.

I’m not going to take my 16 yo into a bikie run tattoo parlour.

On the off-chance I can’t get into Freestyle.. would it be wise to go to Hairhouse Warehouse in the Canberra Centre?

I went into Freestyle the other day looking for an appointment sometime that day or the next and he fit me in straight away so I’m sure you’ll be fine.

I’d also give Justin a miss. A friend of mine had a piercing done there, and while it was cheaper than the other places around he didn’t appear to use sterilised jewellery and gave almost no advice on aftercare, so I guess you get what you pay for.

Yeah he used to take weed as payment, and was the place to go if you were underage because he never asked for ID. I’m pretty sure he was high a lot of the time too, ’cause while my experience with him was fine, I’ve seen some wonky piercings come out of his ‘studio’.

+1 on the bolt. Or a large master padlock.

I went to Adrenalin in Mckellar, admittedly some time ago, but was very good then. Pretty sure he’s still around, is in the yellow pages.

You should be fine to get into Freestyle…. they’ll usually squeeze you in, but they might just ask you to come back in half an hour or something. :).

I think the advantage of going to Freestyle is that piercing is all Beau does… where-as Hairhouse Warehouse just do it on the side to make a little bit more $$…

Where ever you go, just make sure they line it up straight. 5 years after I had mine done… it’s totally crooked……. FAIL!

No… I would’t go there at all, I have seen piercings where they are too small and see most of the ring. I would wait till I could get into Freestyle. I got my piercing about 9 years ago at UC, have had a tattoo from Freestyle and they were amazing.

Thanks guys!

If Justins is the place upstairs in the Centrepoint building then yes, it’s closed. Justin got sick and closed the business before going overseas to live (or so I was told by a fellow shop owner within the complex).

I have a railway sleeper myself – but that’s just me!

+1 for Freestyle.
I’ve had a few piercings there, and haven’t had any problems with infection, or placing like I have with Redpath… they’re very clean and Beau and Mae are both really good at what they do…

Probably avoid Justin… I went with a friend who wanted her belly button pierced. He would only do it on the condition that she wouldn’t “squeal when the needle goes through” because he was “very hungover from a big night before”…….. hmmmm.

good luck with your piercing!

I don’t think Justin’s is still there, I think he got sick a year or so ago. But I wouldn’t go there anyways, he never ID’d anyone, and I’ve heard some dodgy stories.

Freestyle is great, they’re reasonably priced, clean, they make sure the placement is exactly what you want and they really take their time to make sure you’re happy and that you know all the aftercare.

I like Tim at Redpath, but they’re more expensive than Freestyle, and I had a not great experience with the girl that pierces there now too.

Tattoo Culture in Tuggeranong is also apparently really good although I’ve only had a tattoo there not a piercing.

I’d go with Freestyle personally.

I got my belly pierced at Justin’s about 9 years ago and it was alll good. Great range of jewellery and reasonable prices.
