ACT Policing is responding to a suspicious package in Yarralumla at the French embassy.
Perth Avenue is closed at State Circle and Empire Circuit.
ACT Policing’s Bomb Response Team is in attendance. Police are urging people to avoid the area.
Anyone who may be able to assist police with the investigation is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.
UPDATE: This just in from ACT Policing:
A review of the packages has determined that the items are ‘not suspicious’. Road closures around the area have been lifted.
Perhaps they didn’t wave enough white flags at it?
Heston Blumenthal showing those cheese eating surrender monkeys a thing or two?
Word is, this also happened at the Israeli embassy, dunno why less news worthy, maybe less controversial to crack jokes at the french =]
Perhaps it is the Poms again, never letting the Frogs forget the English victory in the Battle of Bremule.
Sacre bleu!
This isn’t Auckland Harbour or Mururoa Atoll!

No idea if that will work properly. Failing that, I Googled “Perth Ave Yarralumla” and clicked the Maps thumbnail at the top of the results. It appears above and to the left of the marker, though I found that the place page has the London Circuit address on it. Could be a glitch with my ancient browser, I suppose.

Off topic, but I’ve just noticed that Google Maps shows a Hog’s Breath cafe around the corner from the French Embassy in Yarralumla, across the road from the Finns. Not sure what’s actually at that spot, is there an inside joke here that I’m not getting?
A dodgy old Renault?
