Bonner Car BBQ

ACT Fire & Rescue and the ACT Rural Fire Service have extinguished a car fire in grass land, near Ida West Street, Bonner.

An area of approximately 10 metres x 10 metres of grass around the vehicle caught alight and has also been extinguished.

No property is under threat.

ACT Policing will investigate.

Saw the smoke just as it got above the trees, happened to be on my way to buy dinner.
Called the fire brigade, but was told somebody beat me to it, so to speak.

Interestingly, and possible relevant, saw a group of hoons laughing hysterically and blaring music, 5 of them crammed into a small car heading from right where the fire was…
Didn’t catch the license plate, chalked it up to a coincidence but who knows…

Car was dumped and set alight? Other misadventure (burnout gone wrong)? Or other mechanical problem?

Assume from police investigating the first.

Very lucky this incident didn’t occur the day before and that ACTFR were able to extinguish the grass fire as quick as they did. Another couple of metres up the hill and it would have hit some heavy timber. Outcome would not have been the same.
