Boom crash in the peaceful outer burbs

So far Fraser has been a quiet, peaceful place however over the last three nights we have been hearing what sounds like gunshots throughout the evening, coming from the grassland area. We have reported our concerns to the police, of course. Is anyone aware of the cause…?

Culls in neighbouring farmland, etc?…

In the not so distant past, this long weekend used to be about having a bonfire with some mates, and letting off crackers. But the Pollies decided they’d had enough of that and we’re not allowed the crackers any more. Of course, that doesn’t stop people who really want to make some big bangs.

Actually I believe Riot Act’s new friend John Hargreaves was responsible for that.

A certain politician got them banned after his cat was tortured with them.

Maybe that certain politician could have used their influence to increase penalities for cruelty to animals instead, which would actually have been a useful outcome.

They banned fireworks a few years after they banned the V8 Supercar race on the same weekend. I’ve heard that fireworks are still available in the NT.

They still have V8 Supercar races in NT too. And a drag strip …

A bit like banning all knives because someone was stabbed. Canberra used to be known for fireworks and porn sadly the internet has taken both.

I was contemplating suggestiing it was the sound of feral cats being vapourised with high explosive but I was mindful that the reaction from someone may have been worse than the cat’s fate.

I would bet London to a brick it was fireworks

Undoubtedly ‘banned’ fireworks, given the Queens Birthday festivities were only banned a few years ago. Heard nothing round south where we are this year, which is unusual, but the occasional sound of cannon fire (read: enormous banger, as we used to call them back in the UK), maybe once or twice a year does annoyingly punctuate the middle of the night.
