Boomanulla reprieve?

Yesterday we had concerns that Boomanulla Oval would have to cease its work with young indigenous Canberrans.

Today we hear there’s some light in the tunnel:

Hi All

I am writing to inform you that Bomber, Col and I had negotiations with representatives from the Department of Prime Minister & Cabinet and the ACT Government with some prospects for good outcomes.

Boomanulla has a brighter future after this meeting today and Bomber and the Board would like to express our gratitude for the great community support, in particular organisations like Winnunga Nimmityjah, Gugan-Gulwan, Ngunnawal Aboriginal Corporation and the whole community.

Sincerely

Darren Williams

Here’s hoping.

A slap in the face for bureaucratic arrogance. I suspect someone is getting their shinybum arse kicked at the moment for making such a stupid decision and sending out such a cruel and insensitive letter.

Forcing the shutdown of a sporting organisation which promotes fitness and teamwork is bad enough, but to do so to a sector of the community where unhealthy lifestyles are endemic is nothing short of disgraceful.

I never thought the day would come but, I agree with you.

This is good news and I hope something can be worked out. I can’t help wondering about the quality of their original application for funding though – maybe they’ll aim to get some feedback to avoid this happening next time?

Reprieve deciders probably had at the back of their minds that Boomanulla could have decamped en masse to the Tent Embassy for a longterm protest …

Well, that seemed almost too easy. But I’m happy that it seems to have worked!

But “light in the tunnel”? You better get the F out now!

Didn’t think they’d let it keep its gate closed permanently . Well done!
