Border Force by tram

Just a nuance about last week’s Operation Fortitude demo in Melbourne. I’ll bet most of the demonstrators (not to be confused with rioters), got the site at Flinders Street Station by tram – read light rail.

Barcelona tram

Ha ha.

As the Newcastle song goes……….. Don’t you ever let a chance go by, oh Lord.

Labor Greens broke our economy now they are trying to break the ACT.

1. The ACT Government is not under any figment of the imagination “broke” i.e. bankrupt

2. The ACT Government has in fact a AAA credit rating

Any reasonable person can only come to the conclusion you are an extremely ignorant fool, simply lying, or committing slander that aims to sabotage the ACT economy for some reason known only to yourself.

Any more bright arguments out there?

Cutting down on junk food = starvation.

Restrictions on smoking in public places = not being allowed to breathe.

Speed limits = bound in a wheelchair.

Keeping to the left hand side of the road = being banned from driving.

More Exercise = Gulag Death Sentence.

Breathalyser testing = Sharia Law.

No matter how many ridiculous arguments I come up with I’m sure someone here will trump them.

Yet another example this weekend of what many here so steadfastly deny.

Shame so many are so slow to grasp the reality in their face.

Lefties bludge of the system and want everyone else to pay for their transport.

At last someone with the sense to demand that the bludging finally stop and all the Canberra freeways become tollways!

The irrational hypocrisy of the people addicted to the lazy, unhealthy and unsafe option of cars is the argument that they “need” to drive their children to and from school because of the dangers of traffic. Thereby choosing more of what is causing the problem and leading to the cases of children being run over either in the traffic jam at the entrance to the school or even in their own driveway.

Either way instilling into their children a reluctance to walk or take alternative transport. The result is visible on the kids, to the distress of sports coaches and PE teachers.

There is an innate tendency of people making bad choices of not backing out of them but chasing the crazy notion that more will make it better. Persuading themselves they have “no choice” because they refuse to contemplate the obvious sensible choices.

The gamblers fantasy that the next one is the one that will fix all the problems of their own creation.

Yeah they are great aren’t they!

Beautiful city and the trams help keep it that way and make it so much easier to get around with a distinct lack of ugly car parking and car parks to mar the beauty.

I recall that in another thread you were praising Gaudi and his architecture which is prominent in Barcelona.
You are aware that Gaudi died from injuries received when a tram ran over him in Barcelona?

And as we approach the 185th anniversary, let us not forget William Huskisson:

http://www.old-merseytimes.co.uk/huskisson.html

1.2 million people a year are killed by cars and over 50 million seriously injured according to WHO.

Just imagine if they had caught “unsafe” public transport!

The saddest story of the first introduction of automobiles was the carnage it wrought on children who up to that time used to play in the streets. It took a long time to train the children that public spaces were no longer theirs but had been taken from them by those much more deserving. People too lazy to make their own way around but couldn’t afford palanquins.

Their descendants may not have developed the necessary instincts to avoid reversing 4WDs in their parents driveways, but the survivors have learnt that travel by buttock is “needed” and getting around on your own two legs and public transport has been outlawed by the self appointed anti-public transport vigilantes of Tuggeranong.

You’re right. Roads, cars, ambulances, fire engines and police cars should be banned. When someone has a heart attack, 2 kms into their 10km run to hospital, obviously avoiding any semblance of a path/road, they’ll be thankful that a) they’re wearing their fitbit so the exercise will count towards their daily stats and b) despite reducing their chance of survival they didn’t use a road.

What like how my taxes go to pay for roads? Absolutely ridiculous argument. One could probably argue that Lefties taxes subsidise the righties car obsession.

Then again NSW Liberal government are extending or building more light rail in Sydney, Light Rail in Newcastle. New light rail on the GC and proposal for light rail on the Sunshine coast also.

Although I fear I may be retired before we get a sensible public transport plan from the Libs in the ACT. Technically we haven’t got one from Labor either, as I can never see light rail being viable to Tuggeranong or even Woden.

Typical leftie attack on a view that doesn’t suit your argument.

SO THE LEFT DON’T USE ROADS OWN CARS OR BUY PETROL? You have the ridiculous point. Everyone uses the roads not everyone will or can use the Gungahlin to City train.

Labor Greens broke our economy now they are trying to break the ACT. Over 1 billion dollars to replace a low patronised bus route. I billion dollars for transport that can travel one route 12km then go back.

The bus is fine for Gungahlin residents just like it is for everyone else in Canberra that uses PUBLIC transport.

Action buses are not broken despite the best efforts of the Labor Greens coalition, The Labor Greens have continually cut bus services back every year. Why do we need a tram.

How much money will the ACT unions be getting from light rail ?

gazket said :

Funny I don’t see the Libs touting a user page system for road transport. You do realise that rego and fuel taxes don’t pay the full cost of road construction and maintenance. Maybe if we had a km based charge for roads and did away with rego charges we might actually see how much road transport is subsidised for the benefit of those (including myself) who make a lifestyle choice to drive.

But I am realistic to see that the ways of the past cannot continue. We need to change and more and more roads isn’t the answer.

Don’t forget the Federal government refused to provide any funding for Light Rail in Canberra because it was unsuitable and uneconomic.

Actually not quite the case. Infrastructure Australia refused funding but infrastructure Australia had finite funding and determined other projects elsewhere in the country were the return on investment was better. That’s not to say they said it was uneconomic all reports say it will provide a nett economic gain the dispute is about if that gain is sufficient plus of course the local political agenda. The Libs see votes in opposing it.

More recently $60m is coming from the Feds through the asset recycling scheme and the project funding model is being touted by Abbott and Co as a model for their way of doing things.

The Gold Coast Liberal National Party Mayot Tom Tate has described their Highly successful light rail as “a reality study” but the Federal Liberal government refuses to fund the 2nd stage extension despite it is “a no brainer”,

But funded yet more 100% loss making freeways (as they always do) because both the politicians and their senior bureaucrats are chauffeured around in taxpayer paid CommCars when they are not getting there in “suitable and economic” helicopters.

This federal government is driven by both voodoo economics and voodoo science.

Don’t expect anything except bile and prejudice to determine infrastructure decisions.

They put in trams when trams were new. The rest of the city grew around them

Where rail has gone into green-field sites it is still often reasonably successful.

It’s now nearly 2016. Time has moved on. So has technology. So has global pollution.

We can do better. Why don’t we try !

Thankfully we are getting a light rail line not a team line. Been plenty of light lines put into cities after the fact.

Ps we can go better can we. How do? More buses? Pods running on monorails like someone here constantly peddles? Teleporting?

That’s because Melbourne has a tram NETWORK, not one line that goes from nowhere to nowhere. The Melbourne network is great. I use it whenever I’m there and when I lived in Melbourne I didn’t own a car as I used the trams all the time.

Wrong! Melbourne may be a beautiful city, but there’s still plenty of car parking and car parks.

Wrong! Not in the main city streets and not the ugly in your face open broken pavement and concrete monstrosities everywhere in Canberra.

Yes, and that Isadora Duncan died when her scarf wrapped around the axle of the car she was travelling in, T. S. Lawrence topped himself on a motorbike, James Dean in his sports car…

So?

Now you’ve done it.

1. Trams are evil
2. Criticising the outstanding work the Federal Government is doing is the devils work
3. What next? Saying that we are pretty damn close to being in a recession?

Get thee behind me.
