The ACT Ambulance Service has assisted in the delivery of a baby girl in the back seat of a car.

The parents of the baby girl were on route to The Canberra Hospital when they were forced to pull over at the corner of Northbourne Avenue and Alinga Street, Canberra City, as the baby’s head had started to breach.

The father of the baby girl made an Emergency Triple Zero (000) call at 2:12am and was provided advice on how to assist in the delivery by an ACT Ambulance Service Communications Call Taker.

The baby girl was born minutes after the initial Emergency Triple Zero (000) call was received and post delivery advice was provided to the mother from an ACT Ambulance Service Communications Clinician.

A crew of two ACT Ambulance Service intensive care paramedics arrived on scene a short time later.

Mother and baby were both transferred to The Canberra Hospital in a stable condition. The baby girl, is the second daughter for the family.

Should we run a contest for the most apt name for the little girl?

Alinga sounds wrong somehow. And Bourne isn’t appropriate for a girl (and a bit bogan).

And I forgot to say congratulations! Galina is an anagram of Alinga and that’s a Russian name meaning calm, clearness, silence, gentleness, calm weather. Which is probably what the mother would like now.

I think Alinga is a pretty name. It’s an Aboriginal girl’s name meaning ‘sun’.

I don’t think it’s nightmarish – it is a new life after all. Barring complications, it’s been happening for at least 5000 years (according to my fundamentalist christian learnings) in far less sanitary conditions.

The leading cause of death among women, in the absence of a modern medical system, is pregnancy and childbirth.
It’s so easy to take the modern medical system for granted when we are no longer subject to the problems which rear their head in its absence.

“Horrific”, no. Scary, nerve-wracking, stressful, I’m sure it was.

“Ainslie” is actually a nice name. Even “Braddon” has a certain ring to it.
Better than “Mercedes”, “Calais”, or “Getz”, or whatever…

You mean a Northbourne identity?

Corner of Northbourne and Alinga, so she should be called Norga.

given the father had to pull over to the side of the road – Parker?

They could make a movie for her 21st and call it “The North-Bourne Identity”

Very poetic Poetix.

Since northbourne avenue during peak hour looks like a car-parking lot, what about Carlotta?

wow – a northborn baby…

Congratulations to the new parents, and hope the car detailing bill wasn’t too steep.
