The AFP have put out a hilarious media release on their apprenhension last night of a furious driver!

It’s all gold and here’s the guts of it:

“The pursuit began after the male drove past an unmarked police vehicle and attempted to hide his face.

Police were about to effect a traffic stop on the vehicle when the driver conducted a burn-out in front of them. Police then attempted to stop the vehicle; however the driver sped away at excessive speeds.

The pursuit lasted a total of three minutes.

Police apprehended the man after he brought his vehicle to rest in the front yard of an Ainslie home colliding with the front fence of the residence causing only minor damage to the premises.

The alleged offender tried to evade police by running from the vehicle but was apprehended in a neighbouring yard after a short foot pursuit.

The man will face the ACT Magistrates Court on five charges including failing to stop when directed by police, furious driving, possession of a knife, drive whilst disqualified and possess prohibited substance.”

True it’s a little funny. Sort of grin or chuckle worthy at most but hilarious? nah. Even as sarcasm it doesn’t work.

The way cops speak and write is pretty funny.

I didn’t find this funny, let alone hilarious. Funny is: A horse walks into a bar and the barman says “Why the long face?”. Now that’s funny. What you said is just news.

Heh.

WMC, French “give way” signs, when translated, read “you do not have the right”

Unmarked cars aren’t really that hard to spot, that is, if you’ve dealt with them before.
Hardly hilarious, looking at the charges he is facing, I’d suggest.

“If it was an unmarked police car, how’d he know to hide his face at that moment?”

Because in the extreme paranoid state of the criminally insane any car that remotely looks like a cop car would instill instant fear and a sudden urge to panic.

If it was an unmarked police car, how’d he know to hide his face at that moment?

hope the case doesnt come unstuck because he was wrongfully charged with furious in stead of reckless driving

Road Transport (Safety and Traffic Management) Act 1999

7 Furious, reckless or dangerous driving
(1) A person must not drive a motor vehicle furiously, recklessly, or at a
speed or in a way that is dangerous to the public, on a road or road
related area.
Maximum penalty: 100 penalty units, imprisonment for 1 year or
both.

yep, hiding face must be high up on the “acting suspicious” list.

I’ll agree that the furious part is odd. The rest is just standard Police-speak.

Dunno, even I’d reckon that was reason to check him out.

Also i didn’t know that attempting to hide your face whilst driving warranted a pursuit.

“The pursuit began after the male drove past an unmarked police vehicle and attempted to hide his face.”

yeah, has reckless been replaced by furious or are they subtlely different??!! I guess it means intentional agressive recklessness rather than just plan old accidental stupid recklessness !!!

I thought it was hilarious because the last sentence reads like a Japanese t-shirt. I also think all “stop” signs in the ACT should be replaced with “effect a stop on your vehicle” signs.

Its hilarious in that they got charged with furious driving.. Was the man angry or was he driving in an angry manner ?

I thought burn-outs, excessive speeds & colliding with a front fence = reckless driving ?

This bloke has just won the inaugural S4antas kick in the nuts for humanity. proceed to the nearest hospital to hand in your license to breed card please.

It ended when he tried to turn from Paterson St into Foveaux St and lost it.

How is this ‘hilarious’?
