The Canberra Times has news of plans by the CSIRO to use its wireless patent billions to build a mighty fortress of science in Acton employing over 10,000 people.

The CSIRO has flagged ambitious plans to establish a billion-dollar agricultural sciences and plant genetics precinct in Canberra that could create up to 10,000 science jobs.

The world-class research hub, to be located in Acton, could transform Canberra, attracting significant investment by major global agribusiness players, CSIRO’s food sciences group executive Alastair Robertson said.

Worse things can happen to a city.

Major global agribusiness players? Monsanto, Cargill? No thanks.

Shane Rattenbury must be excited by this. He must be salivating at the thought of more of his moronic Greenpeace mates wrecking some stuff.

Hopefully they can invest in some better security so the numpties can’t whipper-snip their research again. Anti-personnel mines should do it

It’s but one of five centres they’re planning.

Why the hell not. Even 1000 good secure jobs for biotechnology professionals would be fantastic.

But maybe they shouldn’t be so ambitious to spend all that wifi cash in one place and spread the love around the rest of CSIRO a bit.
