Braddon supermarket robbery

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to the aggravated robbery of a small supermarket in Braddon yesterday (Tuesday 2 June).

About 6pm, a man threatened a staff member of the shop on Lowana Street with a knife, demanding cash. The victim complied and the offender fled towards the direction Northbourne Avenue.

The man was described as being of Caucasian appearance, tall with a slim build and wearing a maroon/purple hooded jumper with a face covering and sunglasses.

ACT Policing and AFP Forensic Service attended the scene. During the incident the offender dropped an empty bag, which was seized by police for forensic examination.
ACT Policing is investigating and seeking to obtain CCTV footage.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any information that could assist police to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via act.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously. We remind people they should not report crime information via Facebook and Twitter.

Feel so sorry for the guys that work here. I used to work at the building behind it and there were always cops there or patrolling around. It’s definitely a tough job they have,

Not sure if the same people own it now as when I was living in Braddon, but back then the guy who had just bought the supermarket had somebody attempt an armed robbery about a month after they had taken it over. Said he didn’t know what came over him but he chased the guy out of the place with a mop handle. Got half way down the street before he realised how stupid it was. hahah.

That shop had always attracted a lot of dodgy clientele from the nearby Govt flats though.

WOW!!! I go to that supermarket a lot while waiting for pizza next door.

Early last December I got my wallet stolen there. I left it on the counter right next to me for literally 10 seconds whilst I read an SMS and the shopkeeper was getting cigarettes…didn’t even realise it had happened until the shopkeeper ran out of the store after them but they got into a waiting car and sped off…apparently they get a lot of crime there.
