Breakfast review: Edgar's in Ainslie

Edgar’s might be a pub, but they open for breakfast and after a hard night Allstarring we were in need of something within an easy stumble of the Ainslie lair.

It’s the second time I’ve breakfasted there and I’m becoming a bit of a fan. The service is fast. The quality is good, and the prices reasonable.

The setting is pleasant out on the corner watching the hungover world go by.

My eggs benedict this morning were absolutely perfect with the bacon at just the right crispness and the eggs properly cooked but still runny.

The tomato was full of flavour and hadn’t been rushed.

In short, I’ll be going back.

They also do the best chicken burger in Canberra. The girl and i have tested jsut about every pub in town and these guys came up trumps 🙂

You couldn’t cope with an early morning beverage yet you had mushrooms?!

*tee hee*

I had the big breaky. It was $15 and the mushies were great. Only thing I’m not that impressed with to date is that the benedict can’t be ordered with salmon. Being able to order a beer almost makes up for it on the days I can cope with a early morning beverage (today was not one of those days)

The coffee is inoffensive, not “hot damn this coffee is good”. But it’s not bad either, simply unremarkable.

The pictured plate was $12 which I’m finding reasonable at the moment.

I don’t actually eat that much and it was plenty for me.

Big breakfast is now IIRC $16, but includes lots of marinated mushrooms.

How much did you pay for it?

I’d be wanting a lot more food than that for breakfast though. On the off chance that you remember any other prices from the menu – what’s the cost of a standard “big breakfast”?

I remember having the equivalent of a big breakfast at Edgars about 4 years ago and it was very nice. I think it was somewhere between $11 – $13.

Hmmmm…. eggs benedict you say. There’s naught a lot that I enjoy more than a good eggs benedict, and up to now the best I had found was the Big Benny @ Gus’s. However you have me intrigued…. game on. My questions are thus:

Bacon and not ham?
What about mushrooms?
The coffee… how much bang for my ever depreciating buck?

That is one mighty fine looking breakfast!!

I’ve been eyeing Edgar’s as a cheap family dinner destination, but whenever I’m in ainslie at dinner time, the place is packed! the menu’s good, and so are the prices, but evidently everyone else thinks so, too.

bacon??? what about ham???

mmmm – that looks delicious. Fatty – but delicious!! Just like Johnboy;)
