This morning we ran the police line on Crime Statistics.
But we’ve learned to take our own look.
The big trick is to untick all the crime categories to get down to specific areas.
So here we go.
Traffic Infringement Notices
Wow, Belconnen represent!
Good to see Tuggeranong asserting itself!
Digging deeper Kambah is really showing its colours there with the other West Tuggers suburbs standing tall with them.
Motor Vehicle Theft
Tuggers duelling Belco for the crown, but Woden and South Canberra well in contention (South Canberra having the cars one would want to steal).
Digging down Bonython is a bit of a standout (bear in mind Kambah has the population of four normal suburbs), as is Griffith, Phillip, and central Belconnen.
When it comes to theft the Inner North finally comes into its own.
Standout suburbs are Dickson with a bullet, Greenway, Calwell, Wanniassa, Phillip, Griffith, Fyshwick, City, Belconnen, and Gungahlin town centre.
Look at that Belco pride shining out!
Belconnen town centre really standing out there but Holt going strong. Other standouts are Civic and Braddon.
Belconnen takes the (dubious) prize once again.
But what suburbs?
Holt is neck and neck with the town centre (although adjacent Evatt, Spence, and Macquarie are suggesting a north-south axis). Weston rates the first mention for The Creek and Barton Forrest, Griffith and Fyshwick all show up.
Similarly Turner, O’Connor and Lyneham have nice things to steal.
Bonner rates a first mention too.
Down south Monash is a standout with Wanniassa not far behind. Kambah probably rates a mention despite the population skew.
Offences Against a Person
Belconnen takes the crown again as we get into the serious stuff. (This is threats, harassment, and kidnapping)
Digging in there aren’t any particular hotspots evident.
Pound for pound you’ve got to call this for the Inner North with Belconnen making it a bit of a northside thing.
Digging down Campbell is notable, Civic predictable, Gungahlin town centre eyebrow raising, Belconnen town centre alarming (much higher than Civic).
Well the Inner North takes this one hands down.
Predictably it’s Civic blowing this out. Belconnen town centre rates a mention as does Greenway, central Gungahlin, Phillip, and pretty much anywhere with bars.
When it comes to the big daddy Woden finally troubles the scorers, with a double for Hughes.
Yarralumla is home to the only other homicide recorded in the Q2 2012.
