Brendan chides Katy for honesty

The Liberals’ Brendan Smyth is having a vent that Labor’s Katy Gallagher has dared to admit that most Canberrans aren’t doing it at all hard at the moment:

“If the recession is not having an impact on Canberra and its people, why has the Stanhope Gallagher Government introduced the Local Initiatives Package to stimulate the ACT economy, in particular the building sector?

“If the recession is not having an impact on Canberra and its people, why has the Treasurer, said that all areas of spending in the Budget will be subject to scrutiny?

Well the stimulus package, Brendan, was because we were being given free money to do it with from the Federales. Try to keep up.

The real question would be why we need to stimulate the building industry. I thought there was a shortage of dwellings in Canberra.

Because Brendan, the whole point is to ensure as many Canberrans remain in work as possible, thus ensuring (as far as possible) the recessions impact is minimised. No point in doing it when everyones out of work already. Dickhead.

For once the Govt. should be congratulated for trying to stay ahead of the curve, as Mr Rudd would say.

Brendan was referring to the ACT Government’s own “stimulus package”, which injected all of $25 million over two years into worthwhile and much-needed capital works such as an air con upgrade to the Legislative Assembly building, and more bill poster silos around town. This is completely separate to the Federal Government’s stimulus package, and is funded entirely by ACT money. Do try to keep up Johnboy.
