Brendan Smyth has put out a media release about the tendency of young Canberrans to go somewhere else when they complete their studies.

He raises the novel idea of actually surveying young people. As he points out most people who bang on about youth issues are getting a bit long in the tooth.

Personally I think it’s great that young Canberrans spend a few years away before choosing (or not) to come back. But I would suggest that the cost of housing is the kicker. But young canberrans being what they are I think it’s mad to worry too much.

They need to spread their wings and fly before coming home to roost.

Always thought Roslyn Dundas had a good grip on youth issues. Shame she was a democrat, as one of the more pro-active assembly members she is missed.
