Brendan's open for business

The Liberals’ Brendan Smyth can’t help parroting the grown up Liberals’ lines (themselves mindlessly repeating the utterly detached from reality American Republicans).

To that end he’s calling for more of your money to be spent telling the world “this city is open for business” by doing the work for an investor to build a new convention centre.

“I will move a motion in the Assembly today calling on the Government to establish a Trust to oversee the development and implementation of the ‘investment ready’ plan by 30 June 2014,” Mr Smyth said.

“I will also move that the Government table work conducted on the ‘investment ready’ plan by the last sitting day of this year, and to complete the plan by 30 June 2015.

Brendan’s been banging on about this since God was a boy and frankly I’d rather see him put his efforts into the whiskey distillery he occasionally gets starry eyed about.

It’s been clear for a long time that while Brendan is very keen on the idea of business like too many Liberals he has bugger all idea how it works.

Investors are the ones who are meant to make projects “investment ready”.

That said, with the bleating about house prices in Sydney (justifiably), surely more businesses will tryito move to somewhere a bit cheaper; and while Byron Bay or somewhere on the beach sounds good, the skilled workforce isnt always available.

In any event, pushing for Canberra to be a location at least considered by business does seem to have some merit.

Knowing nothing about how a business is run is hardly the sole domain of Liberals…

Sounds rather command and control to me – I thought the Liberals were supposed to be about creating conditions conducive to business and getting out of the way.

I think they’re getting keen on crony capitalism right now if I’m reading what’s coming out of the incoming government correctly.
