Bresnan blasts Corbell complacency

The Greens’ Amanda Bresnan is having a go at Simon Corbell for not having any grand plans for public transport in Canberra:

“Ten years ago in the Standing Committee on Planning and Urban Services, Mr Corbell said that:

…measures to actively reduce emissions arising from transport use need to be actively pursued. One key initiative is to start providing a viable alternative to the private motor vehicle.

“I am hoping that as Transport Minister, Mr Corbell will turn his words into action.”

“Today Mr Corbell said the ACT Government was already doing many of the
policies outlined in the Australian Government’s new ‘blueprint for cities’. But not only is this ‘blueprint’ vague and unambitious, the Government has so far done little to really change Canberra’s transport system.

“Canberra’s overall public transport system far from adequate. In particular, areas like Tuggeranong, Gungahlin and West Belconnen are being ignored and forced to become car-dependent.

Considering Transport no longer even rates a mention in his titles (coming in under sustainable development) this might be a little mean.

It’s the Chief who’s decided transport doesn’t warrant a title of its own.

Like I said on another subject – Amanda Bresnan, when you drive a Ford Fiesta Econetic which gets 100km for just 3.7L of fuel and producing just 98 g of CO2 per kilometer and also recommend Action buses use similar, I, and most other normals, will not take you seriously. Another thing; I heard recently that 97% of CO2 in the atmosphere is natutally occuring – only 3% is man made. If that is true and Australia goes ahead with the carbon tax, we will have to pay more to live and make just 0.0005% difference to the 3% man made CO2 in the atmosphere as a nation. How about I do nothing and if you feel that strongly about it, you pay the extra carbon tax. I’ll sit on the sidelines and see what happens. The same as I would sit on the sidelines at the beginning of the last ice age and see what happens as you people would have that as part my fault, too.

Getting a blasting from Bressan is a tantamount to being flogged with a piece of over-cooked spaghetti.
