Brigitte Murray ACT Nurse of the Year

Katy Gallagher has announced that Canberra’s Nurse of the year is Brigitte Murray:

    Ms Murray received the award for her efforts to assist staff and residents at the Villaggio Sant’ Antonio aged care facility to re-evaluate how care is provided and for her work helping carers develop step by step plans to manage their day. Ms Murray, who is the Clinical Care Manager, also developed and introduced a ‘wellness program’ for residents and is currently involved in a collaborative research program for palliative care in Residential Aged Care Units.

Other winners in the ACT Nurses and Midwives Excellence awards included:

    — Jenny Browne – ACT Midwife of the Year
    — Juliet Langridge – Clinical Excellence
    — Anne Maquire – Management Excellence Award
    — Terry Taliaferro – Education Excellence Award
    — Ritva Eronen – Research Excellence Award
    — Lorraine Curtis, Fiona Matthews, Sarah Raiser, Mel Harrington & Jill Peacock – Team Excellence Award – Paediatric Ambulatory Day Care
    — Sisa Gudu – Personal Care Worker/Assistant in Nursing Excellence Award
    — Jennifer Turk – Enrolled Nurse Excellence Award
    — Danny Farrow – Innovation Excellence Award
    — Leanne Drysdale – ACT Chief Nurse Encouragement Award

Cogratulations to all the winners and nominees. We have an excellent standard of nurses and midwives in this city. It’s just a pity that they are not valued and appreciated more by the bureaucrats who make their work so difficult and in many cases, morale so poor.

Congratulations! about time ACT Nurses & Midwives got the credit they deserve.

Congratulations to them all. I guess this shows that despite underfunding and mis-management of the health system, there are always going to be people who step up to the plate and provide excellent service. Well done.
