Brindabella Beer Festival?

Question for my fellow RA beer lovers…

I picked up a flyer for the “Brindabella Beer Festival” at the CRDL semi-final last week, which promised to rival the National Capital Beer Festival held each year at the Mercure in Braddon.

This magical event was to be held in Weston Creek (I think it was at the observatory) on December 8th, but I can’t find any details about it via Google.

Anyone else aware of this event and privy to any details?

Òlamaid deoch-slàinte!

UPDATE 30/10/12 18:42: Thanks to Luke for sending in this flyer:

“Heartbroken” doesn’t begin to describe it.

My only consolation is the slab of Coopers Vintage Ale I picked up at an astronomical price a few days ago. One of the best beers in the country, and made by a large scale commercial brewer.

My favourite part is how Scope just redirected the …/beerfest link to their home page, so unless people stumble across this post they’ll never know for certain whether they just dreamed the whole thing…

“The organisers of the Brindabella Beer Festival & Scope Mount Stromlo regret to inform that they have had to postpone the date of the upcoming beer festival. Safety levels were of the utmost importance to the organisers and Insurance wasn%u2019t available to fully cover the site. The festival will be moved to another location and then be re-advertised through the RiotAct. All the brewers have confirmed that they will still be taking part at the new location and date in 2013”

This makes me awfully sad. My friends and I had quite the weekend planned around this.

About as close as you’ll get on the weekend now is Plonk! doing tastings on Friday evening, and Saturday and Sunday afternoon of that weekend.

Perhaps we should have a disgruntled RA tasting time. Perhaps not.

It’s like Corinbank being called off earlier this year, but without the floods.

Slightly OT, but it appears the “You Brew It” premises in Hume are up for lease.

The whole business has been up for sale on allhomes for quite a while now.

Links are now working, although the ticket price differs from the flyer. Now $38pp.

Excellent. I’ll assume the extra $3 is a booking fee added by eventarc.

The Mt Stromlo website has finally been uploaded, confirming this wonderful event is actually taking place.

Unfortunately the secondary links go to empty pages and there’s still nothing there for ticket purchase, but at least we’re getting somewhere.

I’m guessing along with the website being affected, so is email? Questions asked, zero response so far.

I rang scope yesterday to try and get some information as they still have nothing on their website! The lady sounded very concerned and apparently I would get a call back to give me some information………. nothing. So here we are with less then a month to go and no way to buy a ticket. I have a gluten free mate and would love to know if he will get to join in the festivities or just sit in the corner and cry! I have a fear that I’ll turn up to any empty car park with a “help your self to the beer festival” type sign stiky taped to an esky full of VB tinnies. Actually that would not be all that bad………

Has anyone tried/recommend Three Troupers beers? All I know is that they come from somewhere in Pyrenees region of Victoria.

They hail from Beaufort, just west of Ballarat. They make a superb beer which is apparently available locally at Rydges Lakeside. http://www.threetroupers.com.au/

Cheers, we will get down there (Lakeside) for a taste.

Easy. I’ll be the bloke holding a beer with a contented smile on his face.

Me too. I look forward to enjoying a number of brews in your presence (assuming you wont be packing any of those semi-wadcutters)

I’m a careful man. I’ve never once in my life mixed beer and gunpowder, so I’ll be leaving the wadcutters at home.

I’m very happy to mix beer with other beer though. 🙂 See you there.

Geez – how good is that!!! Wonder how big the beers are? – I suppose pints would be pushing the boat out a bit, dang hell yeah, I’ll be there.

If it’s anything like the festival held at the Mercure each year, the servings will be about 150ml or so.

Just think of how manly you`ll sound when telling anyone who cares how you drank 30 beers and still weren`t pissed.

Earlier in the year, whilst in McLaren Vale, I had the pleasure of meeting Dan and Corinna, the owners of Swell Brewing (Dan is a brewer, Corinna is a winemaker). I prefer their Golden Ale to their Pale Ale, but a Pale Ale from McLaren Vale that I loved was Goodiesons. Alison and I bought a six-pack (and some Barossa red) from Goodwood Cellars and were surprised how quickly the beer went down. Went back that night to get more but shop was closed and couldn’t find it at nearby bottleshops.

Doesn’t mention a year… Perhaps the flyer’s from 2007?

Five of the loveliest words in the English language: special offers for Premium Subscribers.

Not so keen on ‘potentially’, though.

Okay – so I called Scope this morning and verified that the event is definitely still on. Michelle, who I spoke to, was genuinely concerned that the website was still touting Fathers Day as an upcoming event and promised someone would look into it.

Hopefully that means we’ll be able to get tickets sometime soon.

See some of your there (not that I know what you look like). 🙂

The Brindabella Beer Festival Event Organisers would like to announce a sincere Thank You in the keen interest shown by beer-loving, RA hive. They have been inundated with calls and are pleased to announce that there will be an OFFICIAL LAUNCH kicking off next week, here on the RiotACT.. Potentially with special offers for Premium Subscribers 😉

Due to some crazy northern hemisphere weather, their website is unable to be updated at present. Ticketing and information services will be available soon..

Awww….awww…I’ve just now seen the flyer and I’m slobbering on my keyboard. Not an attractive image I know, but what the hell.

Wild horses would not be able to keep me away from Mt Stromlo on December 8th.

Perhaps we could establish a Riotous tasting corner somewhere!

Some good breweries on there, making it a worthwhile event.

One or two I’m not so keen on…

Now if only Scope would update their website so would could buy tickets, as promoted on the flyer. They’re still promoting Father’s Day as an upcoming event.

Doh, don’t know about Brindabella, but if you are in the Ginninderra or Molonglo electorates, pop into Canberra Cellars, Belconnen, Braddon and Gold Creek for Kuntsmann Beers brewed by German immigrants to Chile. Yes this a blatant plug for immigrants.

Kuntsmann beers, eh? Official beverage supplier for all the Hung Juries, no doubt.

I know a couple of smaller Vic brewers are coming up for it, but no one local seems to know about it.
