Andrew Barr and Joy Burch have the thrilling news that they’re launching a study at consolidating all of Canberra’s racing to the one single location:

The 2013-14 ACT Budget will commit $250,000 to conduct a feasibility study into the viability of physically and administratively co-locating the Territory’s three racing codes – thoroughbred, harness and greyhound.

The funding allocation follows a commitment at the 2012 ACT Election to fund the feasibility study, and a recommendation in a review of the ACT racing industry by the Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission last year, which the Government agreed with.

ACT Minister for Gaming and Racing Joy Burch said the Government would continue to work with the three racing codes to progress the work.

“This project will involve the Government working collaboratively with the ACT racing industry to conduct an investigation and cost-benefit analysis of co-locating harness, thoroughbred and greyhound racing at a single site,” Ms Burch said.

Aside from the juicy real estate that could be freed up, one thrills to the idea of seeing jockeys kept in greyhound cages.

If they build it at Thoroughbred Park, I can’t see a problem.

Spending $250,000 to see if we can save money.

Seriously who voted for these people?
