Brumbies 26-13 over the Stormers

Keo has a good match report of the Brumbies improved performance against the weak opposition of the Stormers.

The Brumbies seem to have drilled catching, which was much improved, but the passing was still poorly directed. Guy Shepherdson and his silly mullet being particularly notable in butchering a try.

With the Brumbies pushing for a fourth try the long suffering crowd was finally finding it’s voice as the Brumbies attacked the Stormers line after the hooter only to throw away a length of the field intercept try. The crowd fell silent for what felt like an eternity until the ground announced tried to cheer us up reminding us “The Brumbies won!”.

Against arguably the weakest South African team playing at home it was more a relief not to lose. But there were promising signs for the future. Some passing drills this week and we might even have a team.

Amazing to see Italy win two in a row in the six nations. Looks like the rest of the world is getting better and we are slowly going backwards. Nucifora for Wallaby coach!

Gerard had a very quiet game. I was very pleased to see that grubber through in one of first phases of the game – badly needed some of that against the Bulls.

I couldn’t help thinking that someone had told the boys that it’s not a bad tactic to look for an option when you know you’re about to get nailed … there seemed to be more flow in the game and some good work by the piggies resulted in a refreshing turnover level in the rucks and mauls

I have now seen Mark Gerrard throw the worst of intercept passes. The game at Viking Park (APC FINAL) where he was flyhalf, proved to me that he is not suited to this position. He threw two intercept passes that game as well.
I’m not sure he is suited to rugby. I think he would be a star in league where his lack of pace would be covered by a move to the centres.

Anyway, just like JP’s poor lineout throwing (suprisingly good last night), you take the good with the bad. Gerrard has a great step and can hoof the ball a mile.
