ACTPLA has announced the Brumbies’ plans to turn their HQ into apartments is progressing:
“ACTPLA believes the proposed change of zoning to RZ4, providing the opportunity for medium density housing, offers an opportunity to realise some key elements of the Canberra Spatial Plan and the Sustainable Transport Plan in south Canberra.
“The site is well located in terms of access to employment, services and facilities, including public transport.
“The proposal has the potential to offset the population decline in south Canberra and increase housing choice in the Griffith/Forrest area.
“The large `island’ site is well proportioned and of sufficient size to accommodate medium density residential redevelopment. It is surrounded on three sides by urban open space and by Austin Street to the south.
“We anticipate releasing the Draft Variation no. 307 for public comment in early 2011. If it progresses beyond the public submission phase, we anticipate it will be considered by the Legislative Assembly later in the year.
“If the variation is approved, redevelopment of the site would be subject to other statutory processes, including lease variation and development approval,” Mr Savery said.
Mr Savery sounds keen.
