The Brumbies have announced that they’ve got no faith former captain Stephen Hoiles will get his dodgy achilles tendon sorted by the start of the season, so they’re letting him go now.

There are, however, some mixed messages.

“My rehab is coming along well and it’s my intention to return to the playing field in the not too distant future. Where exactly that will be is something that will unravel in the months ahead.

“I wish the Brumbies all the best for the future and I am confident that it will once again be a highly successful club.”

The Brumbies coaching staff were complimentary about the way Hoiles handled the matter.

“I have been impressed with the way that Stephen has handled this situation and how he has been able to put the Brumbies first. I commend him for his approach,” Head Coach Jake White said.

“Stephen has been an outstanding member of the Brumbies for a long time and it is sad to see him move on.

“On behalf of the Brumbies I’d like to wish him all the best and we look forward to seeing him return to rugby in the near future.”

One has to wonder if he was fitting into the culture of the new regime.

What a sad moment, Hoilsey was a great leader, a great player, and a great guy. The Brumbies will miss his leadership, on and off the field.

So they fired the guy, but they’re sad to see him move on? That’s not a mixed message, that’s just confused.

At least they’re consistent, both on and off the paddock.

whats this, the brumbies ditching a player? things have turned around…

Shame for Stephen though – I think he made a great captain (when he actually got to play)
