Planet Rugby informs us of the Brumbies’ thrilling draw against the Wellington Hurricanes last night at the Stadium in Bruce.

While Julian Huxley got man of the match it sounds like the forwards are finally producing the goods.

In a highly physical encounter, the Brumbies’ pack went blow for blow against their larger opponents with captain Alister Campbell and back row forward Jone Tawake leading the way. Flanker Peter Kimlin, a member of the Brumbies Academy, produced another impressive performance following a strong showing against the Waratahs last Saturday.

Also the RiotACT Rugby Review Podcast is starting up again this week. If you’d like to tip against our panel of experts email your tips in by COB Monday night to rugby@the-riotact.com .

The fixtures for Round 1 are:

Blues v Crusaders – Auckland
Force v Highlanders – Perth
Lions v Waratahs – Johannesburg
Chiefs v Brumbies – Hamilton
Reds v Hurricanes – Brisbane
Sharks v Bulls – Durban
Cheetahs v Stormers – Bloemfontein

Glad to see that Palavi wasn’t missed (no surprises there though).

I would like to give a big thumbs down to the Canberra Stadium last night. With only one food outlet and one bar open on each side of the grounds it was a 20 minute wait for food or drinks. The pies on sale this year are good, but they were cold last night (not too bad as it was pretty warm) and they ran out of pies before half time. I really hope they get their act together for the comp games.
