The Brumbies have announced that a mysterious French organisation is paying for the team to hit the road for a development tour of France!

The schedule will see the ACT-based side take on French Top 14 Champions, Perpignan, as well as matches against Toulon, Bayonne and Bourgoin-Jallieu.

The tour – completely financed by a French organisation arranging the tour and the participating French clubs – will begin on Friday, 24 July against Bourgoin-Jallieu in Lyon before taking on Bayonne (Tuesday, 28 July), Perpignan (Friday, 31 July) and Toulon (Thursday, 6 August).

While the ACT squad for the tour will be named next week it will include CA Brumbies contracted players (not involved with the Wallabies), Brumbies Academy representatives and selected club rugby players.

Touring France in July. It’s a hard, hard life as a professional footballer. But it won’t do the team any harm at all to develop a touring culture.

I’m sure Australian broadcasters will be getting in line now to cover a meaningless pre-season set of friendlies, mred.

Now if only an australian tv broadcaster would pick up the broadcasting rights.

I think this tour will play a bit of havoc with the ACT club rugby finals, taking all the high profile players out and sending them to France at just the wrong time.

Could make things pretty interesting.

They play in Lyon the same day we are there! Woo-hoo! I’ll be there, in the stands, cheering for the Brumbies.

Beware of the French when they come bearing gifts.

Awesome! I’m spending July in France myself (for the Tour De France). Hopefully the dates/places will align & I can get along to support the mighty ACT Brumbies overseas!
